As far as I know the regulators belong to a Jewelers set

I find that a lot of panels need welding after they are assembled, such as these doors...so you end up burning off paint anyway.
As long as no harmful elements (salt, winter) are applied, steel protects itself with a layer of oxidization. I recommend to my customers that they rust-check after paint, it "crawls" to any prone areas such as pinch flanges where paint or primer tends to get destroyed during the installation process (bending and hammering).
That's only my opinion though..

Hey Guys, had a neat job lately to repair a deuce dash and build an instrument panel.....



Dash has been "hogged out' and some poor repairs...



First thing was to fab up a new lower section roughly 1" lower than stock...



trim and fit...





tack it together...





Now we have a dash to design a panel and lay out gauges...





Come up with a pleasing shape and have a look in the car



Now the tedious task of engine turning lay-out...





A "couple" of hours later...



On the dash...



Time for the details...



Some really cool heat/air ducts...





Bore the holes in the dash for instruments...



Holes in the panel and figure out controls and switches...



So far...

 

What number tip did you use to do those long runs?

I like my Dillon (it did take some getting used to) but was always leery of that long of a run.
Or, did you make a half dozen or so linked beads? Did you dolly as you went?

I use the number one tip for 18ga and thinner sheet stock.
Forge welding (hammer-welding) requires that you planish or stretch out the weld as you go...you always want to be in control. You can weld seams of any length...usually the damn weight gets so hot you have to take a break and cool it off anyway...

That is beautiful metal work

Just a note on the regulators, they look very similar to a set I have for HVAC repair. they were purchased at CC Dickson they are a heat and air supply house. Hope that helps guys
