I have been getting questions about coating wheels a lot recently, so I decided to do a pair of LTD solids that I just found at the local pull a part. I use KG Industries 2400 series coatings and it works great on wheels. I did a set of Torq Thrust wheels for member BOutlaw recently, and plan on doing some more in the future. These turned out great. Let me know what you think---Lee

I found these on a 70's model Ford LTD police car. It had all 4. 5 on 4 1/2 pattern too.

I have another set that came from a Town Car around 1978 I believe.

    Yes, that's the back side.

The front looks like the picture below.

Looks good. Is that powder coat? If so, do you have the part #?

That wheel also looks a lot like the Chrysler Cordoba wheel from 78-79 or so.

Has anyone actually run these wheels ass-backwards?? Results?

  14. You'd have to machine a flat surface on the front and chamfer the back side of the holes, but the offset would change drastically.

The Cordoba wheels I remember had small kidney shaped holes that were hiden by the center cap. I've seen these on Lincolns, both full-size and a smaller 14" one on the Versailles. I had a set from a Versailles and they leaked down in about 2 weeks because they were so porous, threw them in the scrap.

The color is KG Industries dull brass. I use their coatings on archery equipment and guns. its completely chemical resistant.

Here are the Cordoba wheels flipped around backwards on the back of my '27 Track T. I have had them on since '06 with no issues. I did not do any machine work of any kind. The back of the wheels even had the recess for the washers for the shank lug nuts I used.

Are these coatings you can do at home or is this some special process ?

This can be done at home if you have a curing oven. DO NOT USE A HOME OVEN! unless its dedicated to this work. These coatings have dangerous fumes and need to be used in the proper settings.

Jeff, They make a coating for that application. I have used it quite a bit over the years with great success.
