Sun was out the last couple days, enough to finally burn off the ice. She's in and now the fun begins!
Because newer 4 speed automatics are expensive bulky and unreliable period. The powerglide has virtually O horsepower loss and is compact, .reliable, and most importantly- PERIOD CORRECT but perfectly functional. My friend rebuilds Powerglides for around $250 - a 4 speed OD starts around $750+.

PS.... looking for a straight front bumper... Tomorrow the big ugly starts. That's a huger bugger of a whale to strip down to metal... but its snowing and -12 so not a lot of stuff on my honey do list.

if it keeps snowing and being cold you won't have to do any yard work for quite some time yet. Guess you will just have to work on the merc ,too bad, oh well.
Been ripping paint looking for nightmares. Very pleased that I havent found any. A new passenger side rocker panel, patches on the lower front fenders and a patch in the trunk and thats it. Incredible. Now the floors can be found again, I'll pull the bumpers. then next dry day I'll roll it outside and finish stripping it. A little body fill from back in the day... Yeah, i'm pretty stoked...
Looks like it will be a cool project. Glad to see you care about staying period correct too... Really happy to hear you're not chopping it....
How Bob Grinsell from Napa California did it in 1956 (as it appeared in a Fans ride picture in Rodding and Restyling, September '56) and how Freddie is doing it in 2014. Once it's settled in real nice I'll make the mounting brackets and remove the lower Olds brackets. It's recessed 4 inches. *All I planned on doing today was taking off a couple bumpers....
Got any photos of the mounting brackets you made for the olds grill???? Sure would like to see how you made it work.

Ha! I clean up every day so it doesnt take over. - Thanks Eric, lots of little things to do before I get full into it.
It was a beautiful 10 C today so I opened the shop, pulled her out and cleaned up the roof before sticking it back in. Oh, then blew out the shop 8 times... Most likely do it again another 8 time to clean it up for drop in lunches. Yes, this is why I clean up everyday.
Filled trim holes and shaved handle and lock. Bit by bit as time allows I'll make some headway before getting into rust repair - the little to do that there is and start straightening out the body.
Now when I started reading this thread you said your plans were to get it runnin and road worthy in its unrestored condition for now and here you are with the paint stripped off and starting body work. LOL I've always stayed on task and never got sidetracked on my plans before though, so I guess I wouldn't understand. What a super find! And so solid to boot. The stuff dreams are made of right there. Love the grille. Mine has a '55-ish Chrysler bar which is real similar, so I might be a bit biased. LOL. Well, Had I been able to track down the original builder the path would have been much different. I dont like being so regimented that I cant change my mind along the way. It makes it a lot more enjoyable. IMHO.
LOL. I was just being a bit sarcastic…..I've sidetracked myself for 35 years on the same car….still not done. And that's only one project not running in my shop. LOL I'mm looking forward to what you have up your sleeve.
