Projects Couldn't sell the shoebox convertible 2 yrs ago.

Few updates. First the surprise valentines present. Steering wheel cover. The cars name is Sara's "Shoe"Box . She loved it. Lowered the seats a bit. Still need to do some cleanup work but getting real close!

Interior we have been doing ourselves. Me, a best friend and his dad. His dad has done interiors for years. He showed me pics of when he did Tammy Wynettes bus in the early 70's. White diamonds like mine but with buttons. He said 3600 buttons in the bus!

Nice! The Crestliner trim is a nice touch. My grandfather ran that on his '49 back in the early 50's

 

Love it! I literally found the trim in the back seat of a 50 convertible parts car in Seattle that I bought off eBay just for the rear seat. The trim was a great bonus find.

I remember those tailpipe extensions.

I think they were called "Nebraska Hammers".

 

I live in Nebraska and have never heard or seen them before I bought them (not local)

That came out wrong... Nice Ford!

My grandpa built a 50 business coupe traditional custom style back in the late 50's. I would trade my eldest son for that car if I could find it!

 

What kind of exhaust tips are those. You should be proud.

Little hard to see the story in the picture.

My parents and girlfriend accompanied me to an auction of 175 of Mr. Andreasen’s cars in Bennington, Nebraska on
7-23-11. It was 105 degrees out, but we were having a great time! The ‘40 rear-end I wanted for my ‘29 Model-A Coupester was in one of the last auction slot, but it was so darn hot, I didn’t want to wait for it.
Since Proxibid was there doing the live streaming video and bidding, we decided to go home and wait to bid on the rear-end in the air conditioning. Did I mention it was 105 degrees out, accompanied by the classic Nebraska humidity?
We were waiting to bid online, only a couple of lots away from bidding on the rear end, and the bidding started for a 1949 Ford Convertible. I told Sara (lovely girlfriend), "those cars are cool when they’re done." Interested, she clicked on the pre-auction pictures, and accidentally bid on it!
One click to bid, no confirmation necessary… Proxibid had my IP address and credit card information. I told Sara, “don’t worry, someone will outbid us.” After what seemed like an eternity, we saw "congratulations, you are the winning bidder!" $3000 later, Sara (I, actually) bought a 1949 Ford Convertible.
Sara started crying and ran upstairs to the bathroom. The poor girl was so upset, she literally got sick! Crying, she jumped into bed and wrapped herself in the covers. I tried and tried to reassure her while letting her know we needed to get out there to pick the thing up!
It was totally disassembled and I worried that someone would walk off with parts… rare parts, while we made our way back to the auction. I hadn’t even looked at this car closely enough to know what she’d bought. Was the engine in the trunk? Nope, there wasn’t an engine
I made a call to my mom and dad that we needed help! They rushed out to the auction site to keep an eye on the car while I picked up my truck and trailer. Sara and I showed up to claim our “prize”.
When you live a story this good together, you make her your wife (coming 9.19.15)!!!

 

Love the story! Seeing the finished product if say it was the best $3000 mistake you could've made.
