Well, the floor is finally rivited back together. Going to get the cab back on the frame this weekend and start hanging/chopping the doors. After that I can start on the patches.

One door, sorta on, lol. Progress is progress. My brother cut some nice oak body blocks. Cab is bolted down now and the door chopping has begun. Last pic is my buddy Ed.

Got one door on. So far so good. Over the last few weeks doing work on the floor of the cab my brother and I came to a conclusion. This old hot rod body is only going to be so nice. It will never be 100% right. It's just had a rough life. It's so far out of shape it's not funny. To really fix it right would be more money than it would be worth when done. So, it's gonna be as good as it can and nothing more. Do get me wrong, I love this thing. But buying a nicer coupe, truck or roadster body would just make more sense. I have been without a driving hot rod for 2 years. Sold my last one and figured this one would come together fairly quick. Well, it didn't. I got sick for 2 years and shit just didn't go as planned. Now, I'll drive this thing for a few summers and enjoy it but, it will never be as nice as I imagined. It will be fun as hell though because I won't be sitting on my ass this summer, I'll be driving my hot rod.

Exactly. I'll drive this around a keep my eyes open for another body. If I can find another 30-31 truck cab I'll chop it right, pull the solid top and the 36 dash off of this one and keep it a truck. If not, a roadster body wouldn't be bad. We'll see what happens. Until then, I'll drive this and have a lot of fun.

I think those old battle scars give 'em character. That's probably the reason I find myself checking out the "unfinished" cars and trucks at shows and runs. Cool truck!

My first door skin. The belt line had some bad waves and dents. So, I cut the whole skin from the door above the belt line. Got it ironed out and put it back on. Then fit the new skin and tacked it all together. Turned out pretty good. Progress.

    Thanks.

    Fronts are 500/525 x 16 Dlx Champions on 16 x 4 1940 Ford wheels.

    Rears are 750 x 16 Dlx Champions on 16 x 5 1941 Mercury wheels.

The front tires are within a quarter inch or something in overall height as the 425 x 16. At the time I ordered the 4 of these from Coker there were rumors of the 425's having out of round and balancing problems. So I found another firestone that that was close to the same specs. Once I got them mounted I realized the sidewall was a little different. It's original use was on volkswagens. They offered to replace them but it would have cost me to ship them back and take the risk of un mounting them and damaging them. I'll just wear them out and get the right pair next time. I don't like them though.

Great following your build post! What was that seat from? Good to know what will fit. I'm about 6' tall, so I wonder how I will fit in such a cab...

I really don't know for sure. It was in the cab when I got it. It was really messed up so I pitched it. It was a rear seat as you can see by the driveshaft hump on the front of it. Kinda looked like early mustang to me but I'm not really sure.

Well, patch panels are done. Bear claw latches are done on doors. Steering box flange needs to be made then the steering box/column/wheel can go back in. I made a flange before and welded it on. It was good but at the time I was using one of those "32 roadster dash for an A" catalog things. I hated it. I have a 36 dash I put in which is done too but the column was at the wrong angle now. So new flange is needed. I've been so busy getting ready for Autorama that I haven't taken many pics. I'll upload some with the app in a minute.

Pics of things that are done, some were under construction when the pics were taken.

Oh, and pics of the original 40 Ford Standard Hubcap set that I've been trying to piece together. I've been buying 1 here 1 there. Then a guy on the ford barn says he has a nice set of 4 "driver quality" caps. He's an older guy and couldn't send pics. Well, I don't know what he's "driving" but it must be dented to F#{€!!!! Only one usable hubcap in the box. So, I still need one, and I have 2 weeks to find it. If anyone has one they want to part with......
