this is really cool. got to love the job they did on the chop. never seen one done quite like that before. makes you wonder if the top would have even stayed with the car if it rolled going through the lights.

  2. You are doing an awesome job on this car!

We got the last of the welding / brazing done today. Next job is to finish lead work and then apply the primer. We'll unchop the fiberglass doors later.

Looks much better already. Better watch out some people are saying in another thread that paint will never stick to brazing LOL. We old timers know that is not always true.

    Thanks.
Almost all of the brazing I have ever done has been covered with lead or tinned or carefully treated with metal conditioner. I don't recall any problems I have ever had painting over an area that I brazed in the last 50 + years that I have been doing body work.
Even the paint that was put on over the brazing done to chop the top, to turn the car into the GOLD GETTER, was still holding tight when I blasted it off.
BUT , you have to get ALL the brazing flux off before painting. I use a wet rag while the metal is still hot to pop it off. Then a wire brush on a drill to get into the low spots.

I'm going to back up for awhile as I found some photos, on another camera card, from the early start of this project.

The following photos are from Jim Nell's Prefect when we made the window patterns . First we made patterns from Robs car, then cut them in half. Then made tabs that we hot glued to the top and bottom half after fitting them into the full size openings.

Hi form Alliance, i have always like to braze ,i have a small torch that came out of he Chrysler plant(thanks for my buddy's dumpster diving), it was for assembly line work,it has a thumb lever when released,it goes to a small enough flame you can set it down, than when your ready again just engage the lever lock it down and your setting has never changed. My friend did body work in the late 50's and brazed all of his work and never had any problems with paint sticking ,he would call the flux( glass )he would tell me, (with a thick Italian accent)now you get all that glass out of there, he did some really nice work but had to give up do to health reasons. It's nice to see someone that can still do it old school braze and lead, nice work and thanks for sharing your work---Jack
