I don't really know a damned thing about Jack's roadster. In fact, I don't think I would know the car at all if it weren't for the gorgeous color picture published in "The Birth Of Hot Rodding" a number of years ago (seen above and again below). wow,, really cool! love that roadster...., outta curosity i googled the adress to find where Evans speed shop was located, as i grew up in El Monte and always curious about old El monte history. the only Fawcett st showing is a 10-11000 section of street left,(which is literally a stones throw from my in-laws,), the current Evans speed shop is listed at 2550 seaman , is the new location the same old location, but a street name change? anyways really cool ... (unrelated ,but while googling, i found out that Pete Chapauris was from El Monte too,,cool.)
Very bitchen car with history. Test vehicle for Evans speed parts. Read an in depth article in a NSRA magazine while waiting for a clip at the barbershop. The body exists today but I believe it was on a new type chassis. Maybe someone out there has the article. Body was GIVEN to current owner and his father by Gene Scott I believe. D
I seem to rmember something about that car becoming Roy Brazio's back when he was a teenager working for his dad. I also remember that it was the body that Steve Archer used to pull the mold for his batch of very high quality 'glass deuce roadster bodies back in the early seventies. I know one of those cars is the Dennis and Debbie Kyle, orange hiboy that is always at Southern California chingos. The hard part is remembering where I read this deal. I would think it in a seventies Rod and Custom, or late seventies 1001 Rod and Custom ideas when Senter was at the helm.
Regardless of whatever happened to it, to me this is the quintessential hot rod and the exact kind of car that makes me happy.
It's simple and just right. Seems that green was not uncommon back then (traditional), though we don't see too many contemporary trad builds in green (takes guts). Filled shell, smooth hood sides/sans headlights sure is a winning combo. Wonder how hot that built Flatty ran on the streets with solid hood top and sides? 130 MPH in 1947-in that car would get you laid...
This car sets a standard..so much so that I can think of several cars built in the 70's and 80's that are clones for it other than paint and wheels. Tim

Wish I knew my '32 roadsters history! Bought it in pieces in 1962, After aircraft striping all the paint off in 1995, I went thru blue, black,yellow,maroon,& a GREEN color. The rear panel had '39 tailights with license plate centered between. Behind passenger seat was a hole for the radio antenna. Also antenna holes in drivers side quarter panel, side lights filled in too. Both door handles filled in, old newspaper rolled up inside door panels all yellowed & dated 1947. Cowl vent filled in. No seat Or brackets. Large roll bar brackets in deck lid area. Large cut out area in floor for (?) easy access to trans?---Or automatic? Oh well guess I'll never know.

I just noticed it and it sent me on a search thru my arcives and sure enough I have a great stash of original stuff on this car.I purchased several collections in Ca few years back and the following was in it. I have his 1941 & 1946 SCAT membership cards I have one of his busness cards from late 40s I have his 1946 membership card from Gophers I have two very early SCTA inspection stickers for the 32 roadster from EL Mirage I have two timing tags for this deuce roadster from 1946 & 1947 All in all great package of history. I will try and get photos posted for all to enjoy Kevin
Looked over my stuff last night and found that the inspection sticker I have from 1947 season of SCTA listed car as # 161 --same as photo on this post. It was dated 9-21-47 class C-R club affiliation Gophers Qualifying Speeds First trial 125.45 second trial 124.20 Third trial 129.31 His busness card listed as J.P.MICKELSON Co. Builders -- cabinet makers - designers All kinds of goods new or old bought & sold Repairs of anything Odd jobs done right Location of shop & warehouse 914 south Boyle Ave. Los Angeles, Calif.
Was digging thru more stuff this weekend and found SCTA program from July 25,1947.Has Another listing for Jack under Class "C" roadsres car # 161 Gophers car club .List class type engine MERC,Heads Evans,Manifold Evans MPH 123.11 With that race the Gophers were in 4th position for season in point standing @47 Jacks time and MPH put him 4th place as well in his class. his timing tag ( I have as well ) lists car as C Mercury Roadster --car # 161 Owened by Jack Mickelson Time in 1/4 mile 7.31 @123.11 Course Harpers Date 7/6/47
