Those look like modern motorcycle radials. It just goes to show what sort of side-load performance can be got from them. It gives me hope for the Widgeon-VW (my chain-drive idea).

  7. I've used Avon Gangsters (rears) on my Avion reverse trike for 15 years. Never a problem.

BSA YW21 for sale in New Zealand at the moment. Not a bad price either - I must say I was rather tempted

One of my all time favorite cars. Was at GNRS last weekend. Hope they cleaned the drool off of it, sorry.

What a bizarre engine. A balancer's nightmare. Two rods on one side and a single rod on the other. Special pistons and rods not interchangeable. I guess it was just to eliminate the offset. Wow, always amazed at what people come up with.

Sorry to say but it couldn't possibly work as drawn as the two conrods would strike the lower edge of the barrel as shown in the diagram. You would need to interpose a crosshead like they have on steam engines...

A better arrangement was devised by George Lanchester who used two crankshafts and six conrods on a horizontally opposed engine to make a vibrationless car engine in the late 1890s... No primary or secondary imbalances and no rocking couples either, but expensive to make of course, hence it didn't last...
