Hey just wondering if it is possible to cut 2 coils on stock tri5 springs? Or is 1 as much as you can go with these cars? Thanks

Cut 1 coil... reinstall... drive it a bit and let it settle, then go from there!

I didn't know you could cut half coils on these cars. Thought they would not sit properly inside the pockets unless whole coils were cut?

you can cut partial coils. I cut 2 coils off one set, was too much, cut 1.5 off the next pair, worked good.

  8. Rule of thumb, cut half as much as you think you want, try it, cut more if necessary.

Cut a little then try it. 2 coils sounds way too severe. You can cut more , but can't put it back. Caution .

One coil is about max depending on what tire and wheel...maybe 1 and a half...but remember, every time you cut a coil the spring rate goes up.

  12. I used to buy new springs and cut 2 coils off them immediately. The last set was in a '65 Chevy and it sat great. Up to 1 coil in old springs is a safe bet.

  13. I would start by cutting ½ coil. Thats all I cut on a Corvette and it dropped it a full 2 inches. Your results will vary but its best to do it little by little or you've ruined your coils.

I cut a full coil on mine but I think as long as you set the lower end in the pocket a half would work.

Go in 1/2 coil increments. As was mentioned, you can always cut more, but you can't put spring back if you cut too much!

  17. Depends on the spring and how saggy it is. If I remember correctly every 8" of outside circumference drops it 3/4".

To get my '55 down in front I used 2-1/2" dropped spindles (Williams Classic Chassis) and cut 1 coil from a stock 6 cylinder spring. The first half coil typically does not make a huge difference. Things start to move at the 1 coil mark.
