I'm going with vacuum, water, oil . I think gauges on the firewall on pretty cool and old school. I got my idea from an old Bonneville racer

The only thing stupid and serving no purpose is your uninformed post in this thread.
    You cant even spell gauges...
    Cool thread btw

  4. Yah, it's a crappy pic, but you can see the Vac and Volts.

When I worked at RB...I built the bracket and positioned 2 gauges in the pside kick panel just below the dash..I tried finding pics, but didnt. You could see them perfectly from the Dside..

  6. I'm still waiting for the gas gauge in the trunk - I can see a guy now, hopping out of the car and looking in the trunk at Stop Signs to see if he has any gas left :D

  7. What did the back side of this look like? Individual cups?

  8. Does a stick marked 1/2 and full count?
Because I've seen that one with a trunk mounted tank.

I love tuning gauges in the firewall. I was influenced by Trendero, and later by Bob Bleeds car. I can't tell you how many times I'm asked " How do you see the gauges in the firewall" I reply I just keep the valve covers polished real well. Then I get the you must be kidding look.

  10. I like it, I wouldn't make it a mile without a rock smashing one out though. Diggin' the clear plastic panel in front of them or hiding them behind the carbs.

I put two of the gauges in my Model A above the windshield. Worked out well.

  12. I immediately fell in love with the hood mounted tachs, as OT as they are they are still cool.
Ill always be quite fond of the console mounted vacuum gauges and 63 grand prixs, I got a nasty scar from one on my right eyebrow when I was 3, chicks dig it.
I like them on the back of the blowers too.

A speedometer on the firewall might be considered useless

    Question...

I think that firewall-mounted gauges are a good idea and cool as hell, but would you also want to run the same gauges in your dash? I would imagine so, what if you start to overheat or your oil pump takes a crap while driving? Or would you just use idiot lights?

  15. Yes, these are all in addition to the dash guages, or two of each. For example Oil pressure in the firewall AND dash. Or some could be firewall only. For example, a vacuum gauge doesn't need to be in the dash.

Oh ok, I see. Makes sense. Kind of want to run firewall gauges in my 61 when the time comes. Thanks!

I like the temp gauges that go right into the intake or waterneck. I found a junk one in a box of junk I bought at a swap meet, gonna have to get one that works when the time comes.

They must have their own sender - they would not read right if you had both on one sender.

Theoretically you could use one sender but it would have to be a specially selected one for ohms and resistance curve to give the same correct reading on both gauges. So use two senders.

31 Vicky: yes, a wooden stick (uncalibrated) was the gas gauge on my first T Bucket back in the sixties. That gauge (stick) was located in front of the seat former. Had to be wiped off before using.

I'm putting them in my 33 Chevy 5 window, saw them all the time in So Cal in the early 60's, anyone that tuned their own car liked them a lot. You need to remember it took hands on to mix and match all the NEW stuff that was coming out back then.
