It is not, but it only takes a couple minutes to remove. Its not like I will be touching the master cyl once its plumed and bled.
couple small things I did this weekend. Still waiting on steering parts. Got about 2/3 of the firewall done. I ran out of sheetmetal so I have to go buy more this week so I can do the passenger side. and shaved the wiper holes on the body, there is a piece of stainless that goes over it that will need to modified too but thats down the road.
Finished up the otherside of the firewall today. I'm also about half way though getting the steering linkage done, so ill post up a couple pics after im done. Insert I made that was a mirror image of the other side. and all done, I still have some metal work to do behind the motor that I'll take care of that when I send the motor out to get some goodies installed. and what I started with.
Had another productive day today, got the steering column/linkage all squared away. getting the angle for the support/bracket was fun. (ignore the welded steering shaft- its only for mockup and was made out of parts I had left over. I will order a new one) I used the column/wheel out of the parts car because it was just about perfect, I will also be modifying the stock power-glide column shift to work with the 4L60e. I also fit the factory inner fenders and roughed out the cuts for the suspension/modded frame. I'm very happy with the engine bay so far, Now that the metal work is done for the most part I will turn my attention to the motor/front drive setup. I ordered a bunch of stuff that should be here this week.
got some more front drive parts on, Its a mutt of a setup, Right now it has a GTO a/c compressor, a cts/v crank pulley ( not pictured ), and a L77 caprice PS pump. I wanted to keep it all factory gm stuff, I also wanted it to tuck below the top of the motor as much as possible, the new setup will give me a ton more room up front of the motor for a fan or thicker radiator. however now you can see the issues, the GTO stuff is about 5/8 offset compared to the new stuff (waterpump/ ps pump). You can also see how much it tucks back compared to the truck crank pulley. after taking 2 steps back I was able to take 1 forward and get this to replace the stock truck intake, I have a set of upgraded heads that will flow better and raise the compression to make more power. got lucky on the firewall too, no modification needed. I am undecided if I wanna make the engine bay look like it was factory in which case I would leave the coilpacks on the motor or go more of a custom/bare bones look in which case I would re locate the coilpacks and possibly change the valve covers and do something custom. with the coilpacks still on.
Onto this weekends updates. With the FAST intake I decided my stock truck heads were going to be a bottle neck, So I sourced some LS6 heads which are going out to get cleaned up, decked, upgraded valve springs and possibly some bigger valves. This will also bump up the compression on the motor to 11:1 or so. So combined with the intake, a custom ground cam, and the kooks headers the motor should be pretty stout. As I stated in a previous post I was deciding what direction I wanted to go with the motor, I figured the rest of the car is custom so I figured I would carry that with the motor. Ive always liked my engine bays on my cars to be the focal point so here we go.... The coilpacks had to go, However I didnt want to mount them on the inner fenderwell and have them spark plug wires running out. So I made these. The bare bracket up top, with the coils in the middle and the stock gm brackets on the bottom. The best place I found was between the block and the frame, this will let air flow by them and keep them away from the headers. In addition to making them invisible once the headers and accessories are on the motor. right side and has room for the starter as well. left side from the front I also finished trimming out the inner fenders for the A arms when the car is aired out. I had to trim out quite a bit so I will made some new parts to cover them. and test fit the hood, which cleared the new intake with ease.

Some updates for this weekend. fabbed up a starter heat shield to keep the headers from cooking the starter once a year like on my 67. started to clean up the inner fenders, shaved the mounts for the fresh air intakes and fabbed up some new inner fender/A arm covers. and tried TIG welding for the first time, Plenty more of this to come. I still have to trim the edges and weld them to the inner fender but you get the idea.
nothing too crazy this weekend, just started fitting the new inner fenders, alternator, throttlebody and other small stuff.
Spent most of the day fitting the radiator, which meant I had to basically build the radiator support from scratch which is fine. It allowed me to lower the radiator and make it not stick out like stock, which will give me room for the intake. back when it was stock. the rad was much taller and more narrow. tons of room for a fan/shroud. Ill have more once I swap over the LS7 crank pulley. also got my fuel rails.

some recent updates, Got an offer from a friend to move the car to his shop (1945 Speed & Custom) which is about 5 minutes from my house vs the 25 minutes Ive been driving since I bought the car. So I moved it down there. had to take some pictures outside, its been a while since its seen sunlight. Been practicing my tig welding (this was only my 3rd time) to make an intake. It stuck up a bit much and was hitting the radiator so I had to cut it up and add a few bends. I was able to tuck it down more and have it come back a bit to match the lines of the grille/bumper. and even match the curve of the roof.
saved up enough dough to buy the tires $$$$$ and get the wheels powdercoated. and ill just leave these here. ride height.
Hey guys, I have been working on the car quite a bit. Here is a quick recap of the car. final metalwork done on the engine bay scratchbuilt 2.5in stainless exhaust. floors completed painted chassis rear end/plumbing replaced the iron 5.3 with an LS6 got the airride working fabricated new rear bumper mounts, 55 smoothie bumper and an early 50s front lisc plate guard for my rear surround got the car running and moving- the motor still isnt fully tuned vhx gauges Ive spent the past 3 months doing the final bodywork, I should have the car ready for paint in a week or two. dash painted rear seat modified and fronts
