What are the cut holes in the fire wall for? Mine has the exact same holes someone cut out. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1388893182.362225.jpg

Guys used to install the later exhaust manifold heater duct. I've seen many like that and an older fellow informed me why

Like bryceaugustine said, you're really moving alone. Really nice work man and keep the "RRR" moving forward.

They are for a manifold heater. Common Model A assessory. Also good for getting CO inside the car if you have an exhaust leak.

    Day 4:
All I got done was making body mount tabs and bolting the body down. I still haven't placed the bushings underneath but it bolted down so things can be fit up.
I filled a few more old frame holes and did some smoothing out of the welds on the floors.
Tomorrow we will have all the springs on the axles and set in the chassis , and the steering will be all done also ..

Very cool story.... I had a rat rod truck before my current roadster.... I pulled the engine, trans and 40 ford wheels and tires and sold it, I used the those good parts for my roadster..... the HAMB (Along with a few friends) helped me see the light. Now if I could only get my brother to like cars older than 2013! :)

  14. Nice project. Saved another one!
I'm following your 34 project too - picked up a nice original 34 frame last year and taking a similar route as yours with as many original parts as possible and an affordable fiber glass 3 window body.

I reversed the front spring. I have a 25 ton World War II mechanical press at work that does a wonderful job of slowly tweaking springs backwards. It makes that job sooo easy

    Day 5:
It's about 4 degrees here so the heat in the garage was not doing much. I finished the front spring.. It's all blasted and painted as assembled. I disassembled the rear spring. Taking 3 leaves out and also blasting and painting .. The f1 box setup is done. I like how it turned out. All this work will show off when it's completely blasted and painted .
We also blasted the spindles and set up all the king pins and bushings. So it's ready to paint then assemble. Still waiting on parts... They will be here Wednesday.. So I'm doing what I can while I wait.

    Day 6:
No work has been done! However a good friend donated a nice ass hood and leather hold down for the project, thank you Sam! . I slapped it on for a view..
It's perfect.. My brother has decided after looking at a lot of "the race of gentlemen" pictures, that he wants an old race style car. So that will be the paint job and lettering. I also was at a friends picking up my hood for my 34, and I scored a nice set of 34 headlights .. We bought them with the intent of the sedan . They will look great ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1389155788.643699.jpg

    I skipped day 7... So day 8:
Finished cleaning and painting the rear spring and the front axle, along with the wishbones. Shot a quick coat of black on there.. Installed the spindles and king pins. Installed a loaner set of mechanical 36 ford wide five drums . Thanks Dave.. And slapped the wheels on. I had to slide it under to see the look. With smaller tires it will be good. All our parts are held up in Illinois due to ups and the weather.. Supposedly they will be here tomorrow . Hopefully. Then the entire suspension will be done.
I also dismantled all the latches and door handles. They all need replaced. They were in terrible shape and froze up. So off to snyders Saturday to get some parts

    Day 9:
Boy where to start... Well my parts finally came. So assembly begins. First we installed the bungs in the wishbones . Got them all welded in and smoothed out. Then we installed the Perch bolts, and the lower shock mounts.. We tapped in the spring bushings and installed the front spring . Bolted it all up in .. Then we measured 4 times and welded the frame tabs on.( I make my own mounts and they look different but work great and clear the steering a lot easier) Tightened everything up and it looks great! Next we installed the steering arm, then moved to the rear. I took the torque tube and shaft off. Welded the spring hangers on. Installed the bushings and shackles and the main leaf . Then began packing leaves on top. Got it all fastened together and bolted in the rear crossmember . Then we installed the motor mounts which were too high. So we dropped the mounts 1/2 and finish welded them all in . Along with a lot of other welding that needed done.
We finished that up at about midnight. Started at 4. Then I measured for the torque tube.. I got it all jigged up and remove 19.75" from the tube and the shaft.. Re indicated them and welded them all up. Straight as an arrow. That took me till about 2 am. Tomorrow that assembly will get installed and then I can get the shock towers and headlight stands done. It's really coming along
Here's a few pics. The stance is perfect!!
