No progress to report, but I did find this neat old louvered hood. It's 5" louvers that are the same spacing as 20 louver hood sides...

The RPU is still in a million pieces in the back corner of my shop. I have been sidetracked converting Hudson steering boxes and messing with a couple of 32 Fordors.

I guess the flame has gone out on the rpu...hopefully I can rekindle it someday.

Great looking hood, hope to see it on the finished RPU some day. That sure was a fun build to follow, it inspired a lot of people. Bob

Another cool piece to a well executed project! Nice job on all of it! Your build is giving me some motivation to begin my project next week after summer school gets out!! :)

  5. One of my favorites! You always seem to have a fresh way of doing things. Very inspiring!

Dude, rekindle that flame and get going!!! I guess I understand though, my '29 roadster pick up is perpetually on the back burner too...

Don't ever take apart a running hot rod! Watching the "last drive" video makes me kinda sad, as it seems like all I have done since I tore the truck apart is build steering boxes for other people's hot rods. 2014 is not looking like the year of the RPU...maybe 2015?

Yup, we did Larry, but I claim exactly what Neal just said... Buildin' stuff for other people's hot rods. It's fun and a curse at the same time.:D

Building all those steering boxes may be the reason Neal is always able to come home from the LA Roadsters Swap Meet with the best pile of parts? Bob

  15. I think I missed this post on January 1st...

Awesome loads of stuff you hauled home there! Sure wish even a quarter of it was in my garage. But then again, I'd probably need a bigger garage.

  17. Looks like your kids really enjoyed the riding view. What a fun build, for you and them. Amazing details too. I hope it makes it back. Get well soon, cool RPU.

I'm starting to think it will become one of those lost hot rods that never sees the light of day again...

o_O:eek: Say it isn't so. You are the only one who can make finishing it happen.
You put way too much thought and work into it to allow it to meet that fate :)

I'd like to see the RPU in paint, or another car build out of the parts pile. Bob

After spending the last hour reading this thread , I sure hope that this is not how this story ends . That RPU deserves to be finished . Like they say , "Make a plan and work the plan. "

  26. To be defeated, and yet not surrender is victory my friend. This thread's first page ... regardless of the outcome, is full of beautiful things that I have yet to find better. I enjoy all of your posts, but this one ... could well be your best. I of course love your RPU.

Paint the chassis, the bottom of the cab, and the firewall, then bolt it all together and drive the wheels off of it!
