The panel paint & the random pin striping looks like the car was built in the earl 70's. great find! HRP
I agree,Some of us were around when panel painting was in vogue,,but that was about 40 years ago,I can't say I have missed the gaudy ostentatious circus painting style. But there is no doubt if you leave the car like that it will draw attention.HRP
Good morning, Car was in the barn for 25 years buried deep in the back, had to winch it out sideways, tires still had some air in them and look brand new with no cracking probably due to it being pitch black and dry in the barn (no sunlight). bought it off the daughter of the 2nd owner, he had it for many more years then that (35-40) and he painted it this way because he used it as a parade car according to his daughter. Car is 99% rust free and main reason I bought it, interior was redone at some point and will clean up nice, roof insert needs redone as it was being used as a toilet by raccoon or other large animal, lol. engine is original and turns over so should be able to get it running and was told it was running when parked. When looking at car was told the front floorboard was rusted out but no rust at all just missing the wood, really bought this car to fix up and sell but as always I want to go thru it and make it cool like lowering and tires, paint, get the top done so any ideas from you guys would make it a good time for me. Any ideas? thanks everyone.
Are you keeping the mechanical brakes?? If so what is your method for installing a drop front axle. I plan on using a reversed eye spring and dropped axle on my 30 Vic but I want to maintain the original breaks. It will also remain banger powered.
sorry to hijack, great tudor love the funky paint, could do with some chrome reverse and a old chrome dropped axle on it! Flatford, here's what i done before with the stock model A brakes on a 33-36 axle (2" drop from model A) with reversed eye spring, used a front shackle plate as a spacer for the brake actuator and it worked fine sorry the pic's are'nt that clear it was a few years back now
Vonmerkin, Thanks for the tip. That's real helpful. I am thinking I want to use 32 perch pins in my Magnum dropped axle as they stand up a little higher but your method will work just as well.
Didn't bring any air with me and with a ton of dust on concrete floor it went like butter. Had to pull the car sideways so full tires or not didn't matter to much I guess.
Frankly this is the oldest car I have ever owned, that's why I asked for ideas. I've only owned 50s and newer cars so I have to do a lot of studying for this one, lol. Back to school time.
Looks like interior, paint and wheels are only things not original. 3 Easy fixes! Looks like too nice a specimen to alter ( I know this is the wrong site for this kinda crazy talk ) If not going back to original put it up on the ford barn and make yourself extra cash and let one of those guys bring it back. Then take the extra cash and find one already molested.
I have a 239 Y-block and auto trans that could work, has anyone done this? also who makes reverse chrome wheels that fit.
Really cool old buggy. I'm not going to give any advice only that I would think about any changes for awhile and just gather information and spend time looking at other examples of that make. She sat there for 25 years so I imagine SHE won't mind a few days/weeks before you start to molest her. Frank
Yea no problem doing that, I've got 3 other projects to get done my 54 ford gasser and 62 dart wagon, also my 67 chevy ramp truck all these are in progress. Did get my 66 rambler American altered wheelbase V-8 all installed this year and won pro 1st week out running 7.70s in the 1/8 with a mild 360 amc.
