Yea that was the roadrunner I was talking about. I didn't know the guy other than he used to take the car to local shows in the Moore area. Helping clean up this year and back in 99 of people who have lost everything is a real humbling experience that you'll never forget.

 

Yes, the frame is that bad, lol. The good news is the driver side rail looks good and I have a large excavator at my disposal for tweaking. Worst that can happen is I fail, lol.

 

Got the frame rails cleaned up, the driver side is straight. I know I'll get the passenger rail straight and get the frame good so far. The verdict is not out on the body yet, lol.

 

Good luck with it. One thing this place has taught me, is that anything is possible with a hammer and a wrench.

 

This thing won't see a wrench for ages, lol
It will see the business end of my hammer, welder, lumber, and porta-power for quite a while though.

 

Just got offered a straight frame for $50, that was easy. Better than work, huh?

 

Well, I spent a couple hours literally jacking around in the car today. I think the roof pushed up pretty decent for what little time I put in it. I still have to get the rear cowl and rear quarters twisted around before I can even think about doing any fine tuning. I'm trying to work around the major parts first as to not kink or stretch the metal too much.

I know, it's still pretty knarly, lol.

Thanks, I still have a lot of hammering to do as I only have used lumber on it so far.

 

Spent a couple hours on it with a port-a-power jack today. I at least got my trunk opening back. The pass side corner is 2" forward. I think I'm going to weld a pull plate in the corner of the trunk, tie it down to the trailer, and go yank on it with the excavator at work till the body mount bolt lines up. I got every body mount bolt in but the pass side trunk bolt. Once I get that bolted down, I'm into pilling roof dents.

 

Well, you think I got a big enough body hammer?

I ended up jerking the truck/trailer around the lot like a ragdoll, lol. I had success setting the bucket on the ground and taking off in the truck. I got the final body mount bolt to line up. Loading and unloading this car by myself without wheels has to stop, lol.

 

Great to see a chevy coupe saved. Good job

 

I wouldn't call it saved yet, but I will learn a lot about shrinking metal soon.

I got a set of body hammers for Christmas, I think I'll stick to those for a while.

 

Man that's a great toy to have around they sure are fun to play with!

 

Lived in the garage for a few hours.
Did some cranking with the port-a- power again. Got the C-pillar rough shaped and ironed out for final hammer-dolly work, then shrinking disks. I have tons of forearm frying hammer work to do for some time. I started ironing out the big wrinkles with a 5lb. Hammer and a forged 5lb. Dumbbell.


There was a pretty good crease in the gutter on the pass side I had to push out.


And, I have another C-pillar just as bad to straighten out yet. The whole thing should look like a sack of marbles when I get to start with the shrinking disks.:hammer: I'm anxious to see how well those work.

I'm dying to find a passenger side door BTW.

 

Don't look like much, but got the other C-pillar ironed out, pulled some dents with a slide hammer, got some filler dug out, and got the rear quarter roughly smoother with smaller body hammers (ready for shrinking disk work). I raided Harbor Freight this morning with 25% off coupons, got my own port-a-power and a 5lb. slide hammer.

 

I just bought the title from the man yesterday. I now have a wrinkly 38 coupe with title.
