Hey guy's I've been itching for a 39 or 40 Ford coupe or sedan. We see them done all ways,, stock, custom, and hot rodded but does anyone have any pictures of a 39/40 Ford coupe or sedan with skirts on it? Give me something to dream about! Thanks everyone!

Those are beautiful thanks guys! I see the mid 30's cars done as motorboat style customs I just dont see too many 39/40 Fords done that way! Time to see if I can find a picture of a sedan done in that style!

That's what they called it in the day - motor boat, think tail draggers have a much lower stance Very hip car you have there by the way, along with the war bird!

The one I posted is probably my favorite 40 ford of all time. On second thought I think it is my favorite.
I like the 39/40 roof/trunk transition(with mucho chopo) as a base start, but with a bit earlier feel , more mid 30s , so no original front sheetametal at all.
This is the first time i have ever heard of them being described as motor boat style,,must be a regional colloquialism,,here in this part of the South we called them tail draggers. Regardless of what you call them there have been some beautiful examples posted. HRP
I think "motorboat" was the term to describe a taildragger long before "taildragger" came about but could be very wrong. Regardless of the term used, you all know what I'm talking about because we have some beautiful examples! Any chance of anyone having a sedan done in this style?! The red one above is killer! bubble skirts, blended taillights, and FADEAWAYS!
This custom is alive and well in Seal Beach, CA. I was doing a Google Earth tour of my old neighborhood (Lived there for a year), and came across this custom parked in an alley. Emailed Rik Hoving asking about it, and he got right back to me...it has been restored and driven often:

Damn...Bulletnose has me thinking really hard about flattening out my rear crossmember and buying some skirts, now! That one is so bitchin'!
Rik, perhaps you can help us out on a side discussion, do you know the origins of the term "motorboat style"? I never thought much about it until it was brought up on this thread, thanks!
