There is a book about Ford flatheads in the works and the author is looking for someone to write the forward. Who do you consider the ultimate (living) authority in flatheads? I have my list, but I want to consult you guys too.

One of the greatest flathead men that ever lived died a little over a year ago. His name was Willie Glass from Highland Springs,Va. He held a couple of Bonneville records in a flathead powered roadster over 200 MPH. Another great flathead guy still with us is Charley Overfelt from Roanoke, Va. Don't know how much of a guru they would be but they have been to guys in the state Va.

  8. How about Mark Kirby of Motor City Flathead? I know he had some health problems a few years back and I have not heard anything in a while.

Bruce Lancaster, has a wealth of knowledge. If I were a zombie I'd eat his brain.

  14. I'll second that. He was the guy I was recommended to by Little Dearborn.

If not Schnell, try Ole Ron over on the Ford Barn. He has been building engines for a long time.

If it's about performance Flatheads, there are some guys out there with a lot of knowledge. Flathead still gets faster, setting new records:).
    Here are a short list of people that come to my mind;

Rich Schnell. (Fastest flathead dragster on the planet)
Andrew Rea / Martin&Rea (fastest flathead dragster on Alky) NZ.
Fladcad Racing here on the HAMB. (setting new standards with Cad. Flathead, Here is a lot of knowledge)
B&S here on the HAMB (My nr.1. consultant)
Makuch Racing (Bonneville record setting Flathead on gas)
Steven McGuiness (fast flathead dragster, building a 5 mains flathead)
Mike Davidson (Flathead guru, and racer) AU.

There a many more right here on the HAMB and probably more on the salt.:).

  18. John Lawson or Ron Holleran should be on the list too. Both have already written some really good flathead books.

John Lawson would be good to write it. But it would be really cool to get Stan Lomelino, although I don't think he would care to write it himself. He doesn't get the credit he deserves but he did more with a flathead than most people ever dreamed of. He was running almost as fast as Rick Schnell 50 years ago.

Don't want to nit pick but I hope it's not called the "forward" in the book...

I read a bunch of articles by "Rumbleseat", aka Paul Garagan. Sad to say it sounds like he passed away last night. RIP Rumbleseat.

I have to give a second vote for Ol' Ron. He still posts over on the Barn frequently.

I think the authors are calling it "How to Rebuild and Modify Ford Flathead V8 Engines".
