Production Year? This car....

I'm trying to determine about what year my Great Grandpa shot this buck for State Historical Purposes. Even the living family members cannot recall exactly what year, so the best I can do is obtain the year of the car that it is sitting on. So, that is the year I'm interested in.

Be nice if either of the cars in the photo were still around....but they are not as far as I know....

38 or 39 Ford,,the grill is hidden as is the side of the hood so that's my best guess. HRP

 

The buck is kinda blocking the view but it looks like a 37 Ford to me. Maybe a 38.

 

Can't see the grill very good, but I think it's probably a '37. The wide fives started in '36 I think.

 

I'm with the others.1938 Ford. possibly a 1937.
Great grandpa and grandma looks like maybe 65 year old models.

1938, or 1939 standard. fenders are different on 37's

 

If you knew who the baby in the picture was it would also help pinpoint the year. The cars maybe have been around for a while when the picture was taken.

 

Correct. That Ford could have been ten years old by then. Or maybe great grandpa traded every few years. We ain't helpin much!

Definitely Not a 37 - Fender to running board is wrong. Looks like a 38 Deluxe or 39 Standard

 

Itsa '38, as they had the bumper with a slightly upward bottom corner (similar to '37's). '39's were round like used through '40.

It also looks like the hood latch is up more towards the top of the hood, which is what '38's had. A '39 had a flatter bullnose on the hood trim.

 

i'm in the 38/39 camp, but remember it probably wasn't new--look at the wear. one of my favorite pics of my grandad is similar, but the deer is laid across the fender of a 35. it was taken in the late 40's or ealy 50's

 

I'll agree with most everyone else- it's a '38 Ford...but I disagree with your statement the photo was shot in the early '50's...'40's, yes, '50's, no. Behind the '38 is a square-bodied make...that's a '30's car, cars lasted many years in the '30's and '40's-not everyone traded cars every few years...in the windshield of the '38 on the passenger's side is what looks like a ration sticker...definitely wartime or shortly thereafter...

......I think you are right on the money here, and I would agree with those who say post-war for the actual picture. I love the old b/w photos. For whatever reason they seem more "real" to me than the contemporary digital stuff. And what a great shot as well, great buck, cool shot of the car and your relatives also. Certainly something to cherish.

 

I believe it's a 37 Ford.

looks like a 38 with the tear drop headlights, the way the fenders butt to the running boards,the 37 running boards wraped around the fender slightly. the deer looks like 41 or 42 model......lol

Yes, I still have the rack. I got rid of the old neck mount and re-mounted it with a new cape/full shoulder mount. It's not a State Record or anything, but is large enough to be recognized by the association in our State that handles the scores/records.

I'm working with relatives to determine the infant. Help if we knew if it was a boy or a girl. The memory of those who would know is fading so that does not help. They are fairly certain it was shot the first year that Deer Hunting was allowed in the County it was shot, so I'm trying to determine that year at the moment.

They know he was gutting it out as the School Bell was ringing down the road and as far as I know, that old school is still there today (as someone's house). It was also shot with Buckshot....and only 1 hit it....in the spine.

 

'38's as well as '39 Standards had same bumper. '39 Deluxe did not.

Ok, here is what I found out today. Hunting was not allowed in the County the deer was shot in from 1903-1942. It opened again in 1943, so that is the year it was shot. There were 132 deer shot in the County that year, 50 were bucks and this is one of those deer. The infant in the photo may be my father. Thank you everyone for the help.

 

Clearly not taken in Missouri then, around here it doesn't matter if it's legal or not, they get shot. I don't shoot them, or even eat meat for that matter but I see it happen all of the time.
