The #2 in the first pic looks kinda like Hector Honore's Black Deuce with the Offy. The background reminds me of a fairground track in the upper Midwest, maybe Iowa, Mo. etc. (?)

 

Minot, ND. State Fairgrounds. The ambulance looks like a '61 or '62 Pontiac, and the #2 ran an Offy thru 1964 or thereabouts. Just a guess on the location.

 

Don't know where but based on the looks of the cars I would guess 1964 give or take a year or two. Denny Z.

 

The marching band doesn't seem real interested.

 

Harrington Bros Livestock was located in Minot.

 

Lee, the last picture has the ex Pete Schmidt Kuzma dirt car in it. #69

Agree with Rootie on the Hector Honore deuce.

It's no track I ever went to.

 

s55merc nailed it. The storage tanks up on the hill are still there.

Thanks guys! For all the info! Found out the my dad was stationed at Minot ND in the early 60's with the Air Force. I had a idea of him being out there then. I asked mom and she confirmed it. Dad went from South Africa to Minot.

 

According to the Interwebs...Minot, ND hosts the North Dakota State Fair and has an active dirt track still operating there named Nodak Speedway. if you're looking on Google Earth, or Maps look up 'North Dakota State Fair Center'...the track should jump out at you and it's still there.

You said the late Greg Weld. When did he die? He couldn't have been that old.

 

Greg died in August 2008 at age 64.

I didn't think it had been that long.

 

Wow. I remember watching him race USAC sprint cars at Reading when I was a kid. Thanks for the info.

Who's the driver running across the track to assist in this photo? Man, talk about taking chances.

 

Bob Christie, but the wreck happened during practice, so I suspect whatever cars that were on the track got slowed down pretty quick. Looks like a couple more inches and Amick would have become part of Rath's tail.

If you're talkin' about Greg being my wife's uncle, no. Greg was married to my wife's aunt Marilyn.

 

Don't know if it was posted here, but Johnny White's granddaughter posted on another forum that Johnny's wife Shirley, passed away late in August.

 

The Weld family had a history of heart problems which is what happened to Greg.
