Said I'd never sell it, but circumstances have changed.:( Son had no time or room for it. So, the historic Granite State Spl. needs a new home. All details, history, and some of the history docs and original, and current photos can be seen in the Hamb classifieds.
*This two page Circle Track Classic feature color spread photo is a bit blurry in the center due to the computer stitching together of the two page photos.

The #2 in the first pic looks kinda like Hector Honore's Black Deuce with the Offy. The background reminds me of a fairground track in the upper Midwest, maybe Iowa, Mo. etc. (?)

Minot, ND. State Fairgrounds. The ambulance looks like a '61 or '62 Pontiac, and the #2 ran an Offy thru 1964 or thereabouts. Just a guess on the location.

Don't know where but based on the looks of the cars I would guess 1964 give or take a year or two. Denny Z.

Lee, the last picture has the ex Pete Schmidt Kuzma dirt car in it. #69

Agree with Rootie on the Hector Honore deuce.

It's no track I ever went to.

Thanks guys! For all the info! Found out the my dad was stationed at Minot ND in the early 60's with the Air Force. I had a idea of him being out there then. I asked mom and she confirmed it. Dad went from South Africa to Minot.

  16. According to the Interwebs...Minot, ND hosts the North Dakota State Fair and has an active dirt track still operating there named Nodak Speedway. if you're looking on Google Earth, or Maps look up 'North Dakota State Fair Center'...the track should jump out at you and it's still there.

You might p.m. Racer 5c a regular here and see if he has contact info for Willie Davis, since he still lives in the Monrovia, IN area.

Rootie, I like your new avatar. Rathman and Amick at Milwaukee 1959. Rathman on top broke his back. Go figure! Red was ok.

Sheezus page 321, I've got a ways to go. Love this thread. Even the wife's gettin' a kick out of it. She likes seein' pictures of her uncle. The late great Greg Weld.

You said the late Greg Weld. When did he die? He couldn't have been that old.

Greg died in August 2008 at age 64.

I didn't think it had been that long.

    Rootie,

Who's the driver running across the track to assist in this photo? Man, talk about taking chances.

Bob Christie, but the wreck happened during practice, so I suspect whatever cars that were on the track got slowed down pretty quick. Looks like a couple more inches and Amick would have become part of Rath's tail.

If you're talkin' about Greg being my wife's uncle, no. Greg was married to my wife's aunt Marilyn.

The Weld family had a history of heart problems which is what happened to Greg.
