I think it looks great! My plans are to offset my center section as well. Once the body is on the frame, no one will see it. Your work is fantastic.
Another picture of yesterday's work. Finished welding out the frame today. A good friend let me bring it over and use his big machine, all of the structural stuff was done with a miller 252. My little machine is wearing to short a skirt to glue the heavy stuff. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
There's nothing more frustrating than trying to weld with a maxed out machine... Ladder bars look great!
So this is the frame finished up. Except for the tranny mount.. I've still got to find one... I like it until I get on here and see deuce rails with dimple die'd boxing plates and all that jazz.... Makes me want to scrap this heap. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
That doesn't look like a 54 timing cover or w/p I have a 54 4bbl intake for sale in the classifieds if your interested
Here's what a 54 looks like in the front It does look like your block & heads are both 54. As long as it's a short block (no extended bell) & the head exhaust ports are oval
'55-56 W/P, looks like a '56 or later short snout cam(assuming it's a '56 354 cam where the 392 won't work), Some '54s were long tail 2 bl engines. Be carefull when reassembling the rocker stands to get the one with the oil hole in the right place.
Yes that's a short snout cam , yes that's a later timing cover, yes that's a later water pump. It's just a picture of all the extras that came with the engine. The engine, heads, crank and rods are all 54 331. Going by the casting numbers. Thanks for the input fellas. And the picture. I was wondering what the early cover looked like. Where they are a collection of @ least some parts for other engines I wouldn't use the cam unless you can determine what grind it is & if it's a 354 cam. I suppose a 392 cam could be reground for a 331/354. A modern LA timing set can be used with a spacer on a short snout cam in a 331.
I have no intention of using the long snout cam, I like the hot heads conversion and their front cover.. Thanks... I'd like to see a complete 331 with the cover and accessories on. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!

Thanks mr Eddie. Now if I just knew of a nice gentleman with a hoard of carburetors???? Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Looking at it on its own two feet, I think I'm going to pick the body up about 2-3 inches. It's a little low and I've got to find room for 3 pedals... Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Cool new part for the little coupe, a great friend and fellow HAMBr got it for me... Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Thank you sir, haven't done much lately. Been working on the grocery getter... I've got to have something to drive this spring... Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Did one of those hard things to do today. I shortened the wheel base by 3 inches via bringing the axle up under the shell, I like the look just as well, but the main reason being that the steering wasn't going to work where it was and I've always thought those screw in spring perches were a little weak. .... By the way all the work was in the wishbones, which was the hard part, they were already chromed... Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
1/2" bolt vs. 3/4" And it bolts through, I'm feeling a lot better about the front end now. And the best part? The wheelbase comes in at 106... Much better now Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I agree. ..106 works the best ... gives you room for the engine as well as giving better proportions to the overall appearance! Posted using Full box of Crayons on the Kitchen Walls App!
They are a posies part, I think they are for quarter elliptical spring setups... I'm sure you could build them very easy. But that's just one of those things I would always worry about. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
View attachment 2128337 Here we are with the body picked up 2 inches. I'm much happier with the stance. View attachment 2128339 Picked up an F1 box today so it looks like I'll tackle the steering next. Have made a deal with a great dude and one of my favorite people (BellM)on a Muncie 4 speed. I can't wait to get the engine in this car, looking forward to building the intake and exhaust. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
