I've been taking a break from buying an selling cars and making some progress on my Merc.. Building it like my dad did in the 70's. I watched my dad tinker with it my entire life in the back of his print shop in Oakland, California. Of course there's nothing like a chopped Merc but the family history with this car makes me want to keep it un-cut. There will be another to chop as soon as I get it ATTACH] Fat whites, loud pipes and a hopped up 49' Flathead. Paint is in progress..pics to come. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Cool car. It's funny, kind of refreshing to see one uncut. There have been so many great builds that where chopped, seeing one stock can be just as cool.good luck with it.
Looking good. Love the motor, what heads are they? Edelbrock? Owning a 39 or 40 Merc coupe is sort of like being in an exclusive club. Fryguy
So about 1972 my dad and his buddy found this Merc in a creek and drug it out (Pleasanton, CA) Somehow his friend ended up taking ownership. In 1973 my dad trade his Harley for the Merc and we've had it since. Check out the early plates registration I dug up. I also have some pics from 70's. Gotta dig them out of a box. Paint is almost done, a few days of wet sanding and buffing still. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Paint color is Black Emerald, motor is a late 49' Flathead with early Sharp heads, Fenton headers, Isky racing cam and bored out a little. Intake is an old polished Edelbrock 4 barrel..going with a Holley 390.
The car looks like it should be a stand-out when it's rolling again. And I hope the "Printer's Devil" name goes on it somewhere, hand lettered, of course. There won't be one in a hundred people who know what the name means!
I might have someone do the lettering in the engine compartment. Good idea. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Good choice on the color. This is one of the cars I'd stop to look at! My first "old car" was a 41 Merc cp. coincidentally it was dark green also with a 283 and 4 spd. You will be stylin' and profiling soon.
Back on rollers. Rebuilding window cranks and door mechanisms. The hunt for good rubber is a bitch. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
