OK...who's a smarty pants that can put a name to every face?

 

How's about the cars?

 

Gentleman in the back left corner standing with hands on hips is the man himself!! Harry A Miller. That's his "Classic" stance..

BUT!! What's cooler is 3rd guy in (4th head from left) at left table is Frank Lockhart. This is the year he Won Indy!

The #3 Miller Harry is standing next to is the Tony Gulotta car.. The Car in the center of the room very well might be Franks PERFECT CIRCLE Miller.. all the parts are correct..

If the picture was clearer we could name more!

I just wish the picture was clearer, but I don't think that's Harry Miller in the back. But it IS Frank Lockhart 4th from left, and next to him are Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hartz. Also, the #3 car in the back is Harry's, not Gulotta's. The dismantled car is a '91', too, and I would presume it to be the team car, Fred Comer's #8 - that may be Fred, sitting left to the car at the right end of one of the smaller tables. I'm away from my books and pictures for comparison atm, so I can't be positive about the car ID.

 

Behind the Hartz's appears to be the Wheeler-Schebler Trophy which Harry would in six years take sole possession of.

The #3 Hartz Miller would soon be sold to Umbrella Mike for his #1 driver and fellow Chicagoan Cliff Woodbury, renumbered #15 as the Boyle Valve Special Cliff returned the favor by cracking it up in March at Culver City.

The B-W trophy wasn't introduced until 1936.

Richfield Oil sponsored this shin dig at the Biltmore and 1926 was a big promotional year for them celebrating and continuing to promote their high octane 'Gasoline of Power'. That year -1926- they commissioned Haakon Frolich to create a statue 'Modern Speed' to celebrate their racing success with this gasoline.
The sculpture is in the back of the room at the extreme right of the photo.

With Hartz sitting there I'd say you are correct. (Plus I take your info over anyone elses I've EVER come across Michael!) But, be sure to look closely at the Tony Gulotta #3 and the size of the 3's on the hood..

I agree that the Miller in the center of the room is a 91. We all know Frank had won with the 91 earlier that year.. That's why I guessed it to be his on display... Winning car on display would make sense.

Michael- Any plans on visiting the states soon? I've got a couple cars I'd love for you to see and identify.

Ha! I wondered that too... only because it's rare to see Frank without his wife.


(I understand women were not welcomed at events such as this oten in that time.. But Lockharts wife wrenched on his car!! she was always at his side.)

 

Might be Harry Miller directly below the front wheel of the #3 in the black jacket.

Josh, the #3 is a '91', too, and Gulotta's car at Indy was a '122'! The reason that both look identical (except for the '122'/'91' differences) is that Gulotta drove the car that Hartz had used as #3 before the 91-cu in formula came into effect at Indy in '26. In the race itself, Gulotta had #31, and Hartz had #3 on his brand new car.

About the dismantled car (or shall we say, naked ), you could well be right, but I have a feeling that Lockhart's car had a black, or perhaps gunmetal blue frame during that winter. As I said, I'm away from my stuff at the mo, so I can't check.

There's a better than 50 % chance, I'd say, that I'll be back next summer, and it would be my absolute pleasure to come and visit Zakira's again, you bet! You guys were a treat, and so is the shop!!

I think you might be correct on that one, possibly with Wade Morton to his left and Bennie Hill to his right, and then Dave Lewis...?? Unfortunately, this digital copy is not good enough to be sure!
