Pulp Friction. I always wanted a car with a name on the side. I miss the old days of racing when you could Identify the car by name, not sponsor!

 

THX powrshftr. Lot's research/time went into design, font & placement of the lettering. It was a pleasure. Now I'm trying to find the "right" engine. The lettering job is outstanding & anyone in the SE that needs work done should pm HAMB member "crook".

These hand painted signs aren't on doors but still the same. I did these on the 1903 Tank a few months ago. The owners wanted me to copy what was there before and I got as close as I could. Lettering style is pretty much standard old west issue. I'm reluctant to do hand painted signs anymore like this due to health issues from Diabetes and unable to stand on my feet much but when they pay whatever I want it is hard to turn down. For those of you asking about prices, since I really don't want to do signs anymore, I charge the crap out people who ask and if they pay I do it. Fortunately for me my pinstriping customers are on the higher end of the money scene so cost really isn't an issue for them. Owner of the tank owns Exxons here in central and south Tx.

My truck has a patina finish anyways, but the guy that did the painting said that the best way to give it an aged look is to wetsand it after it dries. I did it with 800 and that worked well to knock down the shine, and now I'm using 600 and find that works well to cut the straight edges and make it look a lot more weathered. If it still needs more I'll go down to 400, but when I'm done I'll probably work my way back up to 800.

My guy used scotchbrite after the paint dried at his shop. He also thinned paint so as to not be so heavy on the panels. Mine's the '64 Fairlane. Have fooled many into thinking it's a barn find survivor.

I wet sanded with 600 and then hit it with compound to wear it softly with no scratches.

Hard to beat hand lettering done right!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I find it interesting that more and more you see guys who want their new lettering to look faded, washed out and distressed looking.

I believe it part of the movement in drag racing back to the look you saw in the 60's.

In certain parts of the country like the South East part when you go to a drag race and look at the cars racing you would swear you were back in the 60's at your local drag strip.

Just my opinion but I see more interest in this style of drag racing then any other right now.

I even have guys asking me to take the decals I create and give them a washed out faded distressed look so that they appear to be 30 years old.

this one is from my 1940 dodge
the lettering on the door is one of the main reasons that i got the truck.
I was looking for an old truck about 4 years ago and around the same time my kids and i where watching the doc on Ed Roth.
my kids loved the cartooning in the film…
anywhoo with rat fink still fresh in my mind my 6 year old daughter and I when out to look at this old truck and when I saw the doors I know it was meant to be..

 

Will they let you walk around at CTC. I have talked to them on the phone but never made it over there. I have family in Denton and Justin and my wife is from San Antonio but we only make down to Texas every couple of years.
