Most likely some sort of NHRA approved pushlock hose like the circle boys all run. I don't see Quain letting parts store hose fly.

I'd be more concerned about that fuel filter on it, those things are a fire waiting to happen.

  3. I think Quains work was the metal work. floor, firewall, suspension, roll bar ect. I think Shannon took over after that. I would say his idea was to stay away from shiny braided lines.Maybe not totally correct. You can pick at this car. But to see it in person it is one nice car.And more period correct then a lot that I've seen

I just don't see a guy getting a legal cage and meeting all the other rules and then use cheap hose. I'm guessing it's legal.

  5. 6.0's in the 1/8th already, and Shannons still learning how to drive it. Should be a solid 5.80 car.

Your right Dave the beer can is new, it along with the rubber hose that some others posted about was last minute. Shannon's plan is to use the push lock, it sorta looks period correct. We are looking for an old pabst blue ribbon can for the over flow can but it still won't be NHRA legal. The car went 6.00 today at our Gasser race, It will easly go 5.80 1/8 mile.

In 64' I had Braided hose's on my 37' both rubber and Teflon lined, it was the thing to do to be safe and have a top class car !!!

  8. I just used black push lock hose on the new engine in the Henry J, from a distance it still looks right but it also still has the anodized fittings. It's pretty close to the same price as braided steel but since this engine will sooner or later go into the open compartment of my T, it just made sense to me.

Lets discuss roll cages, I built mine after a fair bit of research in 2"x 1/8" CDS, whenever I came across gassers while on holiday they appeared to use 2" OD tube, I never saw any with 1 5/8"
I went with a hoop with 2 legs going back and one diagonal forward.

Mine has a diagonal down bar too. I always thought they looked cool. I don't know if it has any way of being legal, but my local track is not too strict.

Since I wanted toretain my front and rear seats, I made mine a 6 point, but kept the door tubes low enough to allow easier entry. In the back I bent my tubes at 90 degrees so if someone was sitting in the back seat they wouldn't have their head against a tube.
I'm also not sure that mine would pass NHRA tech, but for the local track it's fine. Mine is 1.75" tubing.

By the NHRA rules, the side bars must fall between your shoulder and your elbow to pass tech. I put a 12 pt , 1 5/8 tubing cage in my 55 Chevy.

All kinds of interesting cars outside the driver's side windows.

  17. Langy - Love the seat mounts on that cage (and the chrome!). That's an idea I may copy for mine. The OT racing buckets I have now are going to give way to a pair of Limeworks low backs. My rear bars are arched to go thru the package tray so a rear seat will fit.

Cheers mate, I was lucky enough to pick up 2 new Empi seats, they are plastic and a touch floppy so used them to mould off and made thicker fibreglass seats which are far more rigid.
My cage won't pass tech either because of lack of door bars but our Gasser Circus is not that hot on tech plus I wanted it to look old style.

Out of interest were they using Spools in the 60's or welded diffs ???

  23. I wasn't there but I'm sure money dictated that choice for the lesser known gas drivers. That being said I don't think there is much of a doubt the "big boys" used full race gear to prevent breakage.

Is there any calculator that would tell a body how much horse power it would take to push a 3200# car a 1/8 mile in 6 seconds?

I used a clutch pack Pontiac posi that worked great for 4 yrs, never had a problem

If you use a spool and break a axle you are in trouble real quick

  27. 425 should get you to run 6.98-6.99 (10.96 1/4), but you'll need Right at 700 to run 6.0's (9.45 1/4) according to Richmond Gear with the much weight

Yes, I see now that it seems to take around 700 or a little more to get that job done.

I guess that leads to the next question. Using a BBC iron block what type of budget would a body be looking at to make approximately 750 naturally aspired or mechanical injected HP? No spray.

Or Ansen Posi-Locks. Kind of a square cut spider gear.

I'm gonna run a Detroit Locker in my Anglia this time around. Number 1-- easier to control than a spool when you break an axle or get in trouble. Number 2 -- I've got a third member with a new Detroit Locker sitting in the corner gathering dust.

And the 700 HP is rear wheel horsepower not engine dyno horsepower.
