shape the panel bead then tip!

well i have been fighting this truck for a while with measurements . thanks hotrodprimer for some measurements and Carter for stopping by today to take a look!


door is hitting the subrail not allowing it to close




what i now believe to be the root of all evil for the door not fitting

hard to see the more serious damage but the center of the area is sunk in a bunch

 

the problem in the b pilar! that should be a circle you can see how much it was bashed in



hard to see but the whole pillar is moving



and the crappy door gap



and after the removal of the smashed subframe and bracing

 

finally back in to it after a broken arm

well i made a new subframe corner






had t make 12 inches of the B pillar the new corner and a new triangle brace due to some one bashing the hell out of this truck



same with the passenger side





now the cab is finally untweaked and the door fits as they are supposed to

 

looking real nice.

The way you're going about this makes lots more sense that so many buying patch panels, then having to wrestle them to fit.

But...Please! Tell me where you're getting the round sheet metal 'plugs' to patch holes.
If I have to make 'em, it looks like I'm about to spend some serious time on the disc grinder!

well it was time to mess with the firewall

You had a real '32 truck and ruined it with a '33 firewall? Just for a couple inches? I don't get it.

 

I can just assume that you are not a Neanderthal like myself.

I should have done this myself with my deuce pickup,,I'm 6'4" tall and a couple inches of leg room would sure help on a long ride.

I have a friend that has a 34 cab on a deuce frame and I am amazed at what just a little more inches of room in the firewall area helps. HRP

 

I'm sure there are many many many more ruined 32 ford trucks out there then this one . My customer drives the hell out of his stuff and wanted to be comfortable . I can see if I put a smooth firewall in with a giant ugly recess but I don't think a 33 firewall will offend the traditional gods to much . Especially with a hood over it .

I've never seen your work "ruin" anything

 

Flop, when you do repairs on inner structure areas, do you just grind the metal as clean as you can or do you any chemicals or spot blast? I did lots of rust repair to early VW busses years back and would pull out the sand blaster and hit the repair area before final repair/welding...great work as usual

 

I'm 6'-1" and the confines of my '33 are pretty cramped, even with a severely cut down seat bottom and back. Can't imagine how I'd fit into a '32 without a visit to the chiropractor. Yes, every inch counts.

 

always amazed to see the work you do. hop mine turn out half as nice when I get around to the metal work!

117 it all depends . where the 2 pieces of subframe lap i spot blasted where they would lap then a few coats of weld through prime. after it was spot welded and rivited i try to flow some cheapo rattle can paint in there with one of those red straws from a wd40 can . if its inside the car like on t he pillar i simply ground off what was there did the repair then primed over. when its all done the whole truck will go to the blaster and will then be treated to some ppg epoxy .

Nice work flop!!! Kinda wishing I hadn't sold mine!!!!

 

Flop: I built 2 deuce pus using 33 cabs cause on the outside they looked like a 32. Really enjoyed the extra room provided by the 33 firewall cause on one I installed air. Both had a very small recess for the distributor. I also used the stock 32 tank with the top cut out for a seat riser, lots of room for the electrics and storage under there

 

Thats a great idea on the 32 tank. I think i'll use that idea on mine.
Sorry to sidetrack the thread.


Now back to Flops great body work!

the visor and front of the roof was really hammered

so lets cut it out

Truly nice, clean work resurrecting this worn out old cab. These poor trucks sure took a beating throughout their miserable lives and now another will be saved.

Every time I see these '32-'34 truck threads it makes me even more grateful that I have one that's straight and rust-free.

 

While working on mine, the shop found a grain weight ticket for 9000 lbs. from 1968 !

 

Looking good man.

I still want you to do my 32.

Door bottoms, driver door fit, cab corners, rear cab bottom, and THE WHOLE BED! HAHA
