Cut 4" out if mine last night, always said it was going to get a 5" chop. Maybe I,ll give it another 1/2" ?????

  4. Can you reconsider that? Fordors can be really cool...this from an early '60s Hot Rod (sorry for the crappy cell phone pic, I don't have a scanner):

I went 4'' on mine and think it's about right for a street driven 5 window. Any more than that and they start to look squaushed-too much of a good thing. 3 windows can take a bit more if done right.

I think they are referring to trucks which used a different frame which was 106" like the 32's where the 33/34 passenger cars were 112"

Model 40 trucks use the same frame as the passenger cars but do not have the holes for the side aprons and other car features. The frames are all 112" wheelbase. The Deuce is 106" on the cars and trucks also. Wescott Auto has the chassis prints on line and in their catalog.

In the UK we had our own 33/34 called a Model Y this was a four cylinder and smaller all round version of the Model 40 ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1383871126.770134.jpg

The story I've heard is that the Model 40 was actually an enlarged version of the Model Y.

    I heard that as well I don't know if I believe it , we did make 32's ( model B's) until around 36 I think - I use to have a 1934 Deuce !!

  17. My point in a nutshell - every where I've searched (admitted, I didn't search alot!), different people says different things. :) But does any one know for sure?

Pewsplace, I've heard the truck/passenger car differences before. :) But besides Westcott (which, like most rod shops, tends to focus on V8 versions), do you know of other references of '33 banger frames?

Besty34, I know the Y- it is MUCH smaller, than the American stamped cars (in lack of better word, as the parts were made in Us, but they were assembled alot of places, for instance in Copenhagen, within a mile from where I work today).

As I have understood the Y-story, they made it in '35/'36 as a look-a-like-but-cheaper-1,2litre-version of the model 40 tudor, and are not to be taken as a model 40 (frame would properbly break, if fitted with the V8 or 3,3l banger). But I know only, what the man, I bought my A from, told me. :)

Richard Lacey (Early Ford Garage) and Bill McGrath (Early Ford Store of California) are both experts on the model 40 and operate Early Ford Stores here in LA. You could contact them or Dick Spadaro who is on this site and is an excellent reference for this question. I have owned all the versions of the model 40 and they all the had the 112" wb with some different holes and brackets in the chassis.

That, to me, is clearly a cut and paste error on that webpage. All 33-34 passenger and 1/2 ton trucks frames are the same length.
