Haven't lowered mine, but a lot of folks seem to get by with the 2" blocks and it looks good on these cars without too much fuss or $. If you don't like the look, you could always sell the blocks and go to plan B later on.

Looking good! Try the 2" blocks first, that should do the trick.

The rear springs were made for use with the torque tube rear end. Under hard acceleration they wrap up. I got one of the Chassis Engineering spring kits with a sway bar. Worked great on my 41 chev coupe.

Well, its been a while and I thought I would drop a few lines to bump the thread. I have hit a bit of a stall with the build for a couple of reasons. First, is I tore out the rear axle to allow for the transmission and motor to install, but that created its own issue. Now I cant get it rolled out to mess with the drives sheetmetal. If anyone has ideas on how to safely use rear dollies without the rear axle, please let me know. Meanwhile I will continue to save for a rear spring kit.

I messed around a bit last night. Put the stock springs back on and set the rear down off jack stands on to some dollies. Was able to spin it around and gain access to the drives side. Now back at patching up this side.

Does anyone know how the rockers are supposed to "closed" at either end?

Does anyone know how the floor closes off at the edge?

I got about 90% of my fender lip back in. Got it smoothed out tonight.

Not a problem. The fit pretty good, with just a little tweaking!

Voh- great job on the fender lip. Did you fab those up yourself with a shrinker / stretcher? That's a huge improvement and they're done right. No more flapping in the breeze!

I did the way that teaches me to be VERY welding patient. I bent the sections up, roughly 1" to 1-1/4" per side, then cut the vertical face every 1" and slowly bent it ever so slightly to match the curve. tacked it in and began welding it back together.

I think that last pic has the last portion of it laying up there in the "trunk" space.

I'm subscribing as well. I just picked up a '41 this past weekend, which will also be my first full build. I'll be following you all the way.

    Hey Voh,

Is that a CE rear kit? That's what I have under my 41, along with 2" blocks. If you search through my build thread, there are pictures of the car with the CE front and rear suspensions installed. It's as low as you'll get without major surgery. I'd say the lowest point of the car is about 5" off the ground.

(FWIW, I'm rolling around on 215/75R15 tires)

To clear things up, just like Charlie Brown, I am a block head. The blocks on my car are three inchers.

Looks like you have to do some inner fender well work on the rear as well. Have been dreading this job but getting ready to jump right in. Making your own??

Not totally. I cut out the drivers side to let me have mare access. I am almost ready to put it back in

It's finally back on 4 wheels. Can't say enough about the Chassis Engineering Inc. Just used their second product in swapping a later model rear end under it and it was right on the money.

10-4. I can't think of anyone making better suspension and brake parts for 40's era Chevrolets.

After a bit of a lull in the progress, there's nothing like seeing 500+ cars at LSR to get you motivated. Made some progress tonight. Got the drivers rocker put back in and the inner clamped in place.

first we got into the damn winter light hours (dark way before I get home) and then I started doing more stuff around the house while my folks were down for the winter. Now that it stays light much longer, I have been motivated.

....Oh and walking the LSR looking at all the fun with the cars, kicked me in the butt good.

Can someone please tell me how to close off the front of the rockers/ floor? I messed with it all afternoon and cannot see how all that comes together. Can't use the other side cause it's shot as well.

Cut into the passenger side. I knew there was an "Attempt" to repair the rocker, but I was still surprised at what fell out!
