Projects 51 Ford F1 daily driver

Windshield wipers in with a two speed electric motor from speedway. Not a bolt in and the motor turns the wrong way from the park position. I unplugged the park wire and now stop them in the right spot with the switch. Rain-x is still going to be a good friend of mine.

That thing is looking good! Newport Engineering makes a really nice wiper setup for those trucks and it is a bolt in available with 2 speed with intermittent. They are friends of mine and all they do is wipers for old stuff. Bob has truck cabs and cut up cowls all over the place from doing mock up. Anyway, you are definitely making me want to get back to work on mine.

I'm thinking all chrome steelies with white walls, black steelies/moon discs with black walls, or white steelies/baby moons with redlines. Not sure which one I like best. Your thoughts?

Looks really GOOD!! I would go with white wheels and use the '51 style hub-caps. You can make "adapters" out of outside snap hub-caps and screw or pop-rivet the old caps on. Of course I'm assuming you'll be using newer style wheels.

 

Gotta chime in here. I've been digging your work on the truck and have a special spot for the 51-52 F1s. Had one a couple of years ago that I brought back from the dead and nearly got on the road before I had to sell it. Got a photo album of it on here. I also do Photoshop and if you can post a side or angled perspective of the trucks' current state I'll do my best to put together some work that reflects your wheel and tire ideas. Armed with some oak, a table saw, chop saw, sander and oil based polyurethane, I ripped the new bed boards with my dad tonight.

Congrats on third place! How will you do with cool wheels and tires? Here are some pics for inspiration.


These two are my buddy Dave's truck.

 

I cut did a test with the polyurethane and didn't like the color so decided to stain it a rosewood color. Here's a pic.
And then I pulled all the strips out to spray the raptor-liner on the sides of the box and weld in a new rear frame crossmember which I cut to length today.

Looks great, getting close to the "end" but they are really never done!

 

Got the running boards back from the sandblaster, then quickly put some acid etch primer before I spray the Upol Raptor Liner on them and the inside walls of the box.

Looks good, although that front suspension looks sketchy!
You need some Astros and skinny white-walls to set it off.

 

I'm currently saving up for the rear end, new driveshaft, brake lines, wheels/tires, jag front suspension and steering components. I want to do it all at once, rather than have it sittin on jack stands for an extended period. I'll get the clip and rear end first, then wheels so at least it's a roller.

 

Heater is in with the defrost ducts connected. Just need to wire it and decide on whether or not to use a bulk head connector or not. I think the less areas it can leak, the better. Also wired a cigarette lighter and dome light.

Hey Kevin, how much clearance do you have from the top of the rear axle tube to the bottom of the frame? I am setting up my rear suspension now and am trying to figure out how much the rear of the truck will come down once the bed is put on. It looks like you had at least 4" clearance when the bed was off so curious how much it came down.
