GARAGE ART: What'd you build?

a magazine shot of a bed I made out of an International pickup....everything in the cab worked ..shifter, emerg. brake , glovebox..

 

and a couple of end tables I've done...flyin' eyes on the sides are interior trim off a 1936 Chrysler, wrench for a drawer pull

 

Made using Ford Model A parts. Actually it's quite comfortable to sit on!

A HAMBer buddy who is in to all things vintage, scored this old wood slab and asked me to make some legs, here is what I came up with.

The bases are old split rim centers that I torched out sometime back. I drilled a round hole in each spoke, and the needed holes for the model A banjo axle bells. I cut down the bells and welded them together, welded on tabs to mount the early T rear cross members to each. The cross members got drilled graduating holes down each side. The bottom edge of the bells as well as the inside of all holes were polished, and the whole thing was clear coated. On top of each cross member is a bead blasted model A steering gear with an A wishbone ball mounted on top.

My uncle built this really cool '59 Cadillac couch about 10 years ago. He had bought a rusted out 4 dr. '59 flat top for the rebuilt drivetrain. At the time he had three '59 Cadillacs! He stripped off a few other trim pieces, cut off the trunk and junked the rest.
The back up, tail lights & brake lights all work! My son nows has it in his shop office.

 

Made a couple sets of traffic lights.

 

Here is the "Christmas tree" that I finished for "Racer Row" at the Charleston (WV) Rod Run & Doo Wop car show last week. The first pic shows it between two 1960's nitro dragsters at the show, while the others show it at home in the Hot Rod Grille garage. This tree operates on a PLC that allows the lights to sequence as they would have "back in the day". Note that the 1960's 5-amber Chrondek units were later replaced by units having 3-amber lamps similar to what is in use today. The sign at the top of the tree is a remake of a decal advertising the local race track that closed in 1977.

That is funny and true. I'm only part way and want all of those things so far!
These guys and gals are real artists. Great ideas.
Just imagine all the parts that are staying out of the scrap yards.
Only thing is in 1000 years what will modern man think when he digs these things up.

That looks great! Are those matching bases for stools that I see in one of the pics?

 

^^^ Thanks, yes, a rear hub sits on top, machined flat with a factory bearing so they will spin. The seat tops will be rectangle wood to match the table top.

 

At the risk of it having a "cowboy silhouette" look. I cut out this Dragon fly
from an old AD 1/4 panel that I just couldn't toss out.
Its for my wife.

Still thinking how to put a slight bend in the tail, w/o ruining it.

 

Man, you must have been flying to stick that vette so far into the back garage wall.

Saltflats, that fold is done using a tipping die over a step roll. I shim the edge of the tipping die as close to the step in the bottom roll as I can get. I use it on the tails of the dragonflies too.

Forgot to ad 15$ to mount the tire to the wheel because I felt bad for the guy at the shop. The tire has a 3/4" hole drilled in the back sidewall and it took 3 patches to get it to hold enough air to seat the tire on the rim it took him 1 1/2 hours of fiddling with it but he still didn't charge me so I bought him a case of beer.
