Projects finally got my long desired 34 3 window

  1. Great work on the shock mount!!

As for the headlight position, just my opinion, I think the lights need to be lower and tucked closer to the grille.

I'm feeling the same way.. Vern hammonds car has the high and far apart ... I'm not sure if I like that.. I love his ca and they look absolutely perfect on his car. However Mine isn't pulling that look of worth a damn.. So .. I may be hacking the brackets all back apart and leaving them just shock mounts . My problem is the car is channeled, which lowers the grill , so a nice aluminum mount like Vern's, which is 8 inches puts them way to high on my car ... Decisions decisions

Regular headlight units instead of those halogens would improve the look a bunch.

Looking at an original set of guides right now . I agree they are out of place

  5. That was my first thought as well: It looks like they need to be tucked in a little closer to the grill. I don't have an issue with the height, though.

Man, I dig your coupe project. True love knows no bounds!
I finally got focused and back on my true love, too, which is a 5-w coupe. Had a couple over the years, always had to sell for one reason or another (always finances) and always regretted it. Real steel now just outa my old-dude budget, but I finally came up with a fairly solid 34 Studebaker (!) 4-door that has all the right lines. Whack the rear roof, stick it on the rear door, carve off the rear and find/build upper quarters and trunk and I haves me coupe ! fenderless and low, of course. aaaargh!
(sure wish it was gonna be that easy, too).
Chompin' at the bit to get to it, definately going to be a driver/beater but solid safety/driveability in mind. No nostalgia museum piece for me.
Small engine for mileage so I can AFFORD to drive it. Previously I had a cool T roadster with big-cam 460, zoomies, wing, and it was like dating a Las Vegas hooker porn star. Great ride, but WAY outa my pay grade, gonna get me hurt, killed arrested or all the above. Had to let her go.
Now I still have to finish off a couple projects and sell 'em (or not), but this time if I get starving I sell the house, a kidney, scrap 'em out, WHATEVER - the coupe is mine now to the end.
    heavy sigh...

I came home today and cut off the light brackets... Then I decided I wasn't happy with the location of the shock mounts. It seemed as of my test shocks were in a bind.. So back to the drawing board for those. However I did dream up an easy headlight mount. And it works... ! So I'll take it to work with me and throw it together in autoCAD, and burn it out of stainless, throw a bend in the top and it's done. And the lights are in a good spot!

Much improved! Personally I prefer them lower still, even if it's not traditional. I like the top of the bucket even/level with the top of the tire, but admittedly that doesn't look best on every car.

I love watching your build. Makes me think I could do 1/2 of what you accomplish if I didn't have a job, a family, need sleep, or pause to eat or use the bathroom. You really move quick!

you guys crack me up! :)
i get up at 5 a.m. work till 2:30 at my day job, get home at 3:00, walk into the garage and work till 7 or 8 at night. every day. i walk in the house, the wife has dinner made, we eat, and watch tv and talk till about 10:30-11... then i hit the sack,
    day in and day out.
weekends are usually sat morning and sunday morning in the garage.. the evenings are wife time.
all it takes is a little motivation fellas,
then there is also those days where im burnt out and i leave the garage door closed and the lights off.... recouping my brain.

And my window regulators came today. Nice original set that work great.
Waiting on my window tracks, the cage nut brackets for my striker plates, and the wood crafter to finish my oak interior parts and we will be ready to dive head first into the doors

  18. Putting in a 3-4" dropped axle would help with that, too! :D

You guys are correct about the drop axle..... But not everyone had a car slammed on the ground in 1950 on the lakes... They were highboys that were stripped down to race.. I want this car to be a drive in style salt flat racer. Like the guys that drove an hour to race then jumped in the car and headed home ..

I got the shock mounts finished. I used carriage bolts that I buffed the heads smooth to hold everything together.. Looks like rivets . So those are on the. I started on doors. Just gathering all my parts to see what I had. I'm still waiting on a few orders to arrive, lower shock mounts, shocks, still haven't found widow channels yet.. Once the car is basicly fit together, I will tear it l down for a nice chassis paint job and then the body... But here is what I finished up this evening .

You didn't ask my opinion either, but I am going to give it to you anyway. I think your car is turning out great. I wish I had your energy level, and I appreciate the great ideas that are coming out of this build. You will be driving the thing before I can get my doors back on.

I ordered 3/4x3/4 16ga sq tubing today, this was suggested by a guy for window tracks.. basically just cut off one face of the tube, making it c channel, and then just pie cut it for the rounded corners at the top of the door. and to go along with that I ordered 5/8 wide window channel run felts. this will be a nice fit inside the sq tubing after its cut. all I need is template of the glass that belongs in the door. so I’m got a piece of 1/4 thick plexiglass. I’m going to draw out the shape and use that to fit the tracks and the regulators. after I know it will work. my buddy is going to water jet me two side windows out of 1/4 safety glass..
