This is a Hexagon and a very similar looking unmarked manifold. The Hexagon is dated July of 1947 and the unmarked is dated April of 1947. There are a few differences in vacuum ports and most noticeably in the risers, but the overall design is very similar. Just curious if anyone has any info on the unmarked one. Did the earlier ones not have a logo or could it be that someone just stole the design. Anyways, here are the pics:

elmitcheristo: I have the version with the carb flanges as well. I am certain that these were cast from the same pattern which was modified at a later date changing the carb bases, vacuum ports and oil return. You can see the pattern modification on the later version which stuck out like a sore thumb on some of the poorer castings. I'm kinda partial to the flanged one myself.

... Here’s a Navarro Racing Model 2x2 in a style I have not seen before; because of its higher runners, Non-Gen mount sloped nose and no Breather Boss. I have seen them in a much lower profile & with Carb Bases spaced closer together & towards the back. I’d love to build a 59 AB around this intake.
… Anybody know anything about this pre 1949 model; how it performed etc?
    thanks, Ric

Lousy picture as it was taken in a barn at night but this Jack Henry 2x2 was hiding in the back of an old 50 Ford Woody wagon we pulled out of 48 year barn hibernation last week.

Awesome Pre-War Davies 2X1 manifold with Winfields on a 21 stud with Meyers water pumper heads. All original stuff on Tim's 5W. It's at 9 mins 55 secs or you could watch the whole thing and wait

I've seen 5 versions of this manifold dated as early as 1935. All 5 versions were cast by Hexagon but only Version 1 is Pre-War it has carb flanges but no name, no vacumm provisions and a taller fuel pump stand that does not work with a mechanical fuel pump. This is the version used on the Ted Horn car.
Versions 2 & 3 also have carb flanges, version 2 is no name, with small vacuum flange. Versions 3 and later are cast Hexagon, have some type of boss present for vacuum plumbing, usually larger and that may or may not be tapped also the riser heights vary and one version is definitely a marine application.

The original manifold was designed by D. Sullivan, most likely around late 1934. Urban myth had it designed specifically for Miller/Ford FWD Indy Special. That is now highly disputed and most likely not the case. See an earlier section of this thread for more on that.

Edsel Ford was also working with D. Sullivan for he realized like so many others that by winning races, you sold cars.

Also, the reason the carbs mount backwards is two fold: One- The Miller cars were front wheel drive so the carbs would be mounted the "traditional" way in a Miller race car. On a normal, rear wheel drive car, they claimed it kept fuel from sloshing around in the bowl.

There is a matching air cleaner for the Hexagon Tool intakes. I'll dig mine out and try to snap a pict. of it.

I also have stashed away a Thickstun PM-7, matching air cleaner and matching head covers stashed away awaiting to be put on my pop's '32 Tudor.

Oh Whatever. I couldn't even but all the engine stands let alone the damn gems mounted to them.

I don't know how rare it is but I have only seen one other. It is a stock cast iron Ford manifold converted to three carb by welding in two cast two barrel pieces with flanges.
I remember these pieces being in J C Whitney catalogue in the late '50s-early sixties.

Bought the book " Merchants of Speed" at Hershey a week ago. Great reading! Tells about the young guys who designed all this stuff. Get a copy.

I'll be the oddball with a 6 banger here, but chrysler long blocks don't seem to be represented in this thread and she is a flathead after all...

The motor in question is a 52 chrysler 265 waiting to be dropped in my 40 plymouth.

Nice manifolds folks, keep em coming- I love flatheads!

I think i know now why it's so difficult to find intakes to run on my pre-war cars, they're all hanging on people's walls... :(

The one on the left is called a "Sparks". It is an F-head configuration with overhead intake and stock exhaust through the block. A few of these were made by Norm Frick. They have no water passages in the heads. I have never seen one run. They look cool though.

This threads been quiet too long. Here's a mystery V8-60 intake that has baffled everyone that's seen it.

The mystery was eventually solved. It's Stelling, designed by Bob Stelling of Stelling & Hellers of air cleaner fame.

I'm looking for a eddie meyer Hi rise or an unusual intake for the wooden boat I'm customizing with a 39' V8 Flathead 239CID. It will stick out above the back deck.
