I was at Randy Richey shop a couple of years ago (Les Richey's son) and he was in the middle of re producing them, but I don't know what happened.

This great 57 gasser is exactly as it was in '66. It has been resurrected by the original owner Bob Dixon. He brought the car up to the ELTA summer bash last Aug.

Reading this thread makes me cry all over again for not buying that $3500 fuel inected 427 SOHC out of a drag boat in the early 1990's in California.

  6. Yeah, I remember the parts manager at the local Ford dealer trying to sell me a crate SOHC for $2200 in the mid-70s (when Ford pulled out of racing that time) or a complete Boss 302 for $800.... sigh....

But at $4.82 per hour, I just couldn't swing it...

    That man was brilliant.
Garlits has always been touted as "the innovator",but Pete Robinson was really the guy who had some tricks up his sleeve...in '61 his sbc fed was crushing Hemi powered and twin engine cars left and right.
How were the valve train harmonics with the gears vs the chain George?
    Was there any noticeable difference?

Saw the Arnie "the Farmer" Beswick A/FX '65 Comet yesterday at a buddy and fellow HAMBer's place but couldn't get any decent pictures of it inside the trailer.
He had a funny story about being parked next to the Dick Landy AWB Dodge at a show.
He said when the Landy car fired up it sounded ok,drew a bit of a crowd....then he proceeded to fire up the Cammer..and said it made that Dodge sound "like a puppy dog compared to the Cammer..!"

I will snap a few next time I go back.Im going to need to bring a few bits and pieces that way for machine work soon anyway.
Seeing a 427HR on a stand next to a 289 did convince me that maybe I need to let go of the small blocks for a while, and give a 427 a chance to twist up one of my rides...!:D

Yeah!Thats the one.....except it was parked facing the other direction, and inside a trailer when I saw it....lol
It was pretty interesting to see the way the front clip was held on with a removable subframe,so that when the 'glass was off,the supporting structure came off too, leaving nothing in the way of reaching the big Hemi Ford motor.
That Cammer was definitely an intimidating sight...!:)

Myron,I owe you BIG time for introducing me to Dave.As well as being a wealth of information and resources,he is a Ford diehard, and one hell of a guy to boot.

Sooo, when did Arnie switch from Pontiac to Ford? Last time I saw Arnie run was in '65 at Indy, when he blew his blown Pontiac big time near the lights, after being beat by Jack Chrisman's blown 427" wedge-powered Comet. Always thought Arnie stuck with Pontiac.

    I didn't make this shit up....lol!
I always thought he was a Pontiac guy too until I saw this car.
Maybe they tried to steal him away like Ford did with Petty in '69...?

  27. Well, a little search (very little, actually) reveals that he was recruited to be part of a 3-car Comet team in '65 (Beswick, Don Nicholson, and Hayden Proffitt - yes Hayden Proffitt!), but promoters only wanted to book his Pontiac. After running the Poncho one too many times, Mercury took the Comet back and gave it to Paul Rossi, who named it "Goldfender".
