Projects Cheapest Fiberglass Roadster Body?

I'm looking to do a little project and I need a cheap glass roadster body. No buckets. Quality of the body really doesnt matter, as well as year and make. Where can a guy get the cheapest body??

Picked up one of these bodies about 12 years ago for about the same price. Yeah it was a lightweight, but all it took was a little extra blocking on the parting seam. Semi cloned the Kookie car. but before I had a chance to get it out on the road someone wanted it more than I did. Actually made about three times my investment. The guy that bought it moved from Michigan to Vegas. He still has the car, drives the shit out of it, and it still looks good. If I was gonna build another T I would get one of these for sure.

 

1920-1940 any roadster will do with the exception of t-buckets. A t roadster would be great. Under $500 would be really great.

Under $500? Whether you like it or not, you're in the land of T Buckets. You might be able to get a used '26-'27 for $500, but the condition might not make it worth it.

 

Condition isnt a big issue either. I plan on cutting it up. Plus i can do fiberglass work.

Just go to a junk yard.......fiberglass roadster bodies have been around for over 50 years, so they should be starting to hit the junk yards by the shit load soon.

 

I don't think they get sent to a junk yard to be recycled, but they do show up once in a while.

I also concur. I search by years (ie: 1928-1934 Ford or 1957-1960 Corvette). Try looking for GMC trucks from 47-66 or anything else with numerous model numbers/styles. Somebody there really doesn't know what they're doing.

 

There is a company out of Three Rivers Michigan that produces a cheap `29 body but the doors and lid panels must be joined and mounted/hinged by the purchaser.Don`t remember their name but shouldn`t be hard to find.
I think the entire body pkg was about $2000 but that`s four times what you want to pay. Not much Model A stuff out there for $500...

 

If you can do fiberglass work,find someone with a steel body and talk them into letting you pull a mold and make your own.

Offer to make 2,,one for you and one for the other guy.HRP

 

Check with Poli-form, they used to sell a cheap 28-29 roadster body, we used one to build the Bonneville car, good body. Chris

 

I guess i may have to settle for a bucket with a turtle tail.

Doesn't Speedway sell a basic 27 body?
Maybe not, haven't looked lately.

 

Speedways cheapest T roadster body is a grand. If you can do glass work buy there Vicky legend car body or deuce body and make it fit your application. Both are around $500

May I ask what you are doing? You can buy a 32 roadster kit for about $2500.00 but you have to glass the doors,floor and decklid together.

The Vicky legend body is $449, BUT it's only wide enough for one THIN person.

Cheapest might be to build your own, if you can't find a cheap used one.

A few years ago I made a sidecar body out of thin plywood and covered it with fibreglass, it was very strong.

It started out as an experiment. I made a mock up of the body out of some old paneling with a plywood floor. When it was done, it was a lot stronger than I expected so I decided to skip building a "real" body and fibreglass the mock up.

If you wanted something more weatherproof you could carve a body out of foam insulation (spray foam) and fibreglass it.

I got my fibreglass from a boat manufacturer, he had it in bulk and sold it to me cheap. I brought a gallon can and he filled it with resin from a 45 gallon drum.

 

The deuce body I referred to was the legend car body not the full car. When I checked the check T body was a bucket not a roadster. The thousand dollar one had a turtle deck attached. Still would be better to build one from scratch.

 

A T bucket IS a roadster.

You might need to be a little patient, this junk shows up all the time on Craigslist and swapmeets.
