Vintage shots from days gone by!

I'm just not ga-ga over Marilyn. She's certainly attractive, I have enjoyed most of the movies she's in, and I'll stare at a shot of her from head to toe. Maybe it's a living up to the myth thing. I think I prefer the sultryness (and the voice) of a Lauren Bacall or Sophia.

There, I said it.

 

Funny enough, many complained of MM shots so I stopped for quite some time. Then a couple compliments rolled in...so now I mix in either a very early or obscure shot from time to time.

Works for me! One of the neat things about Monroe is she had so many looks and was able to pull all of them off so well. I'm not too big on the glamour shots of her, but more the girl-next-door thing she had going on.

And there's certainly nothing wrong with the other girls of that era either...

 

The Misfits is a great, great film. If you never saw it, get it and watch. Monroe is awsome in it, as is Clark Gable and the whole cast. If you ever doubted Monroe's acting ability, you won't after watching The Misfits

Martin mars flying boat. WW2 killed the flying boat concept, but what fantastic machines! Some Mars are still flying today as firebombers!

Looking at those B-24 pictures makes me think of my late father, Ken A Reynolds. Here's where he spent the freezing winter of 1944-45, living in mud and tents, flying out of Spinazzola Italy with the USAAF 15th Air Force, 460th Bomb Group-The Black Panthers. He was in that nose turret over Casino, the Po Valley, Vienna, and all over Germany, Austria and Poland. Five Bronze Battle Stars and the Air Medal. Screw the Luftwaffe! He was hard of hearing from firing those twin 50's. Thanks Dad.

The only problem with all this vintage stuff is I remember too much of it when it was new.

 

Great photos, Gary! And love the background on your father. Sounds like he was a true war hero. My dad has an uncle that (from what I'm told) was one of the highest decorated airmen from the 8th Air Force. He flew in the B-17s, mainly as a radio operator, but found himself shooting and even flying one of them back home. He flew multiple tours. We owe a LOT to that generation.

 

My Dad would have denied being any kind of hero, he just did his duty.

And my Dad was to be transitioned to B-29's until VJ Day in August 1945.

50 - that is amazing! Yeah, my dad's uncle was the same way; my dad says he didn't even like talking about it much. Luckily, someone was able to talk him into writing a short history, of which I have a copy tucked away that has been read several times over. I think they earned every bit of recognition and then some by serving like they did.
