im interested in seeing what everyone is running for steering wheels. not interested in metal flake or ugly billet aftermarket ones, but stock, swapped, or modified ones. i feel the steering wheel will make or break an interior. personally one of my favorites is the 56 lincoln.

This is an aluminum 13" wheel from the Speedway racing catalog with a crash pad.

This is the early Olds wheel that I used on my 34. It was made smaller in Dia and leather covered.
I also did this back in 65 on my 57 Ford pick-up and have one now on my 56 Chevy pick-up. but stock dia.

  12. This is what I am putting in my 54 Chevy. I was told it is a 46 Chevy. I don't care, I like it.

I have always liked the '56-'57 Lincoln wheels. When I couldn't find one I settled for a '61 Cadillac wheel.

HRP, I do not think it is possible to take a bad Pic of your Car.

The Steering Wheel, the Car, and the build story are Great!

Enrico Nardi makes some of the most beautiful wood steering wheels and in particular the Anni 50 and Anni 60 models. The guilloché spokes on the Anni 60 are a lost art form....

Nice topic to share this idea again. Many of us can recall that semi-translucent look on the wheels from the 40s, especially on the higher priced cars. There's a way to make the eyes see exactly that without spending $4-600 on a recast. Once your wheel is filled (JB Weld is awesome for steering wheels) and sanded smooth and primed you'll need an off white or 'vanilla' colored base, some gold pearl, and then either buy or make some brown candy top coat. Hang the wheel on an old broom handle or other suitable rod to be able to spin it without touching. Once the base is on you want a nice even coat of clear, even clear base or something like HOK's inter-base. Next apply the pearl in one nice easy and even coat. NOT TOO MUCH, you'll kill the color. Next apply a light even coat of the brown candy, and don't completely clean the gun from the pearl. You end up floating just a bit of pearl in the 1st coat of that too. Tech tip here, allow lots of flash time for the candy as it will dry darker than what you're seeing as you spray, also the candy wants to be reduced or thinned out so as not to build too much color that it mutes the base and pearl too much. Add 2 final coats of clear when you're done and like your color/effect. The 1st reaction from even the most hard-nosed observers, "Hey who re-cast your steering wheel?" Here's a couple samples but the pics don't do what you actually see. It tricks the eyes into seeing translucent material. Hope this inspires a few...
