I had a bit of time last night when I could not sleep and came up with this... Not easy to make probably... Window trim comes from a Sedanette, but the four door trim could probably also made to work... with a slightly different shape. Body on both was not sectioned... but I did extend the rear fenders for a longer look. And this version was chopped a bit more to get better proportions.
Well you guys are just awesome. Thanks for the insperation, i will post pics as I go. Once again thanks for the help with the pics.
A spot to section at that people forget about is the beltline, that is how the barris boys did a 54 caddy convertible... how would the delivery look with the beltline sectioned out, and the hood pancaked?
Took a little out of the belt line... not too much. And did some reshaping here and there to get it all flow a bit better....
Rikster-great job of photoshopping.Black Caddy wagons always make me think of a Funeral Home, maybe a different color or putting on a 1948 Tucker flattop roof on it would be nice. TwoChops
If you do end up using that ambulance as a donor be aware most of those bodies are steel over wood, like 30s GM cars, you'll have to rebuild that part most likely to chop it. If you go delivery you might be able to use a 49-52 delivery parts car for the top, there's enough of them out there.
I like the green one too that is acually the color I will end up painting it one day. I want to do a green body like a metallic and a off white top.
There was a sectioned Coupe de Ville, about a '51 model, done in the early '50s. I don't remember which body shop did it, but the cut was taken above the fender line and it looked quite good. It was a magazine feature car, but I don't recall whether it was Hop Up or another one. The car was painted black, and I saw it parked on the street in Santa Monica within a year or two after it was built. Rik, do you know the car I'm talking about?
5 year old thread, wonder what ever came of the OP's project? FWIW I do have a pic of the Caddy I did with the tapered chop and section, can't believe it's been 20 years ago. Another on I did a straight chop and section, it's an Olds 98 but same body as the Cad. These are how it left my shop, it's since has had the suspension done to sit it down proper and is close to paint I hear.
Lol.....I was just thinking about you as I was reading this thread....I hadn't looked at the dates but I was going to point the op in your general direction due to the two cars you just posted up.... Fortunatly a 49 Chevy AD section does not entail the same intestinal fortitude that yours do!
no sorry do not know this car. my idea was to cut the lower part of the body just as was done in the photo on page 1
I have a few other pics, what are you looking for specifically? Not sure what you mean by cut off at the bottom. I went right thru the middle except for the door skin itself, that I took off, cut the bottom off and put it back on the frame.
I found a video where it is cut centrally along the length of the car, I would do it like in this picture, where it is shortened from the bottom, where the body is more resistant, even some of the upright body then goes tgliato higher
for me to understand better watch the video, a great job, bad welds and sheet metal worked a little bad but it was a great job cut in the middle where the sheet is much more delicate above all the doors, instead cutting the bottom is more resistant I hope to explain well http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-qbyAvozGMk
