Features Non Ford motors in Ford bodies

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 62fordf100, Oct 22, 2013.

  1. I put a 69' Plymouth 318 with a mild cam in my 59' Ford F100.

We also clipped the front with a volare clip and the rear axle is a 8 3/4 from a New Yorker.

Well I've got a dozen sbc's, whatever decent looking car / body I can afford to buy and spend time building, guess what engine they'll be getting. I doubt I can afford any ford body's so I think they're safe after all.

This is my 350 in my 1962 Ford F100 Flareside, eventually one day I'll find a big block that's either a Ford, Olds, Caddy or Hemi to stuff under the hood to melt my tires off the rims.

current project is an old ford pickup (titled as a 38 but in reality is a 37) that is being built into what i hope in the end will be a screaming street rod. the picture in this post is the engine we built for it. started life as a 69 corvette 350. is now a 383 stroker, .30 over with a comp cams thumper cam, patriot aluminum high performance ported and polished heads matched to a ported and polished edelbrock 2X4 tunnel ram intake with snuggie headers and an MSD ignition. the serpentine system was made by street and performance (aka hotrod lane). the engine should be in the range of 550hp and close to 500 ft lbs of torque. definitely a non ford engine in a ford, lol

When I was in high school (early 60s) a friend stuck a 318 Mopar in a 47 Chev.

Oh wow, that 383 looks so bold, tough and mean. It almost tempts me to want to keep the 350 I have and make my own 383 stroker that could melt anything in it's path.

    You've gotta shift!

  16. It just pisses me off when someone says 'small block chevy'? I tend to get a little uptight but restrain myself. Never put a sbc in anything in the last 40 yrs. Might consider a hemi or olds thou

I have a question for all of you, would a junkyard be the best spot for looking for an Olds, Caddy or Hemi motor?

When I was in hi school I helped a buddy drop a 413 Mopar/727 trans combo in his '55 Chevy. I liked it so much that I bought a wrecked Chrysler and put the same combo in my '40 Chev coupe! :)

  27. My '51 runs a '58 Chrysler 392

  28. SBC in Fords since 1955...Traditional? Never gonna go away...Just like Kool 4-doors and Nash Ramblers!....LOL

  29. Probably not, unless its one that's been around a long time and still has older cars in the yard. Even then, the more desirable Hemis will probably have been picked over. Newer yards aren't likely to have engines that old.

Swap meets, Craigslist, classified ads, word-of-mouth, etc, are going to be better routes.

  30. You are correct on both accounts. ;)

Here is the deal, anything other then a ford in a ford is called a hot rod. Henry had the only affordable v-8 engine for a lot of years and that was what fueled the hot rod industry until valve in head V-8s came about. Then just the mere fact that you could throw a stock V-8 anything in place of a flathead V-8 and end up with more ponies and or torque pretty much spelled the end of the Ford motor in a ford car.

There is no reason to even have a thread about non ford motors in ford bodies, just go to any cruise or car show and walk around.

Kool or kewl or cool used the the same sentence with Nash ramblers or 4 doors is an oxy moron. One thing that always comes to mind when somone says that 4 doors are cool is that olds never build a 4-4-4. :D
