Features ford motors in non-fords bodys

Here is a friends (non HAMB friendly) 68 Camaro with a very, very, healthy 331 stroker Ford that puts out over 500hp.

 

Man I love that! What quarter mile times do you run?

 

I've thought about putting a Jaguar inline six in my Falcon, but I'm not sure it would fit.

I haven't done the Ford in a chebby yet, but I no doubt will someday.

I have shoved a Ford in a Nash and one in a Volvo. Does that count?

 

It was just built out of stuff i had laying around, 3spd toploader, diff solid mounted, ran a 16.2 last time out with the 6 carb stock rebuild 272, but just picked up a steel crank 292 so we'll see how that goes!

 

Oh man that would be cool and a hell of a sleeper too. Do you have any idea of the difference between a Jag 6 and a Ford six?

 

Not at all, I wish I did. Since the Jag design goes back to the early 1950s, though, I'm willing to bet it's larger in every dimension. It's probably more comperable to the 240/300 "big block" Ford six.

At one time you could buy an aluminum sbc block from, I believe it was Jones Engineering, in multiple configurations. One configuration was Clevland Ford heads. Years ago, JV Brotherton (Brodix) told me "stock Boss 302 heads" would outflow anybodies GM built sbc heads.

 

That meshes with what I've read about GM LS-series heads essentially being Cleveland heads.

That may very well have been the combo. I remember seeing the car in the back of the shop and looking at it, and I remember seeing it run, and it looked good both times.

this theard has been alot of fun there are some real cool cars and some that are just dumb but the best part is there are still hot rodders out there that build cars with bodys they like and drive trains the like myself i like sbc,s and y-block fords and nailheads but i like when someone will build something thats not run of the mill like a bbf in a mopar or a chevy that runs or a chevy in a ford or mopar that runs or a 360 mopar in a ford or chevy anything but a hemi their as over done as a sbc or a flathead to me but a 440 wedge in a 55 ford or chevy ?i would like to see that. any motor in any car with enough $$$$$$ can run like hell

 

i've had a '59 GMC 100 truck and stuffed a 302 and a c4 in it and it ran great...

Actually they were all 390s. Ed admitted that in interviews. Ford gave him the 3 engines as a promotion to put in show cars and they were of the shelf 390s, the 406 story was hype for the car shows. He put two in the Mysterion and one in the '55 parts chaser.

I have decided my 37 Chevy p/u is going to get a Y block if I wont have to touch the firewall for distributor clearance and I am going to do some measuring this winter to see which other Ford motors will fit good without surgery if I cant use the 272. I really would like to keep it powered by a six so I will be looking at the 300 in my 95 F150 beater to see if its the same length or close to the present 235 and if it is I will be on the hunt for a mid 60s 240 since they rev quicker and get better gas mileage then the 300,the thread about the 454 in a 64 galaxie made me speed up the decision and will be a project late next summer or fall since I need to do some suspension improvements on my 66 f250 first.

 

Don't overlook the Ford 250 six. More compact than the 240/300 and very durable.

I like the Y-block idea best, though.

 

I have driven a car with the 250 and was impressed,the problem I have with those motors are the intakes cast in the head unless I find a Aussie head.

 

Or buy the Classic Inlines aluminum head.



I've got one on the 250 in my '62 Falcon and can't wait to see how it runs.

In the early 80's a friend of mine stuffed a 390 in a Crosley. HRP

 

I can't post pictures of it here, because it was OT, but I ran a 5.0 Ford in my Jeep pickup. Made a great driver and was fun to drive. In hindsight a sbc would have been an easier install (length) but I had the engine and trans so in it went.

A good friend of mine, who sadly passed away two years ago, put a 460 in a '41 Cadillac limo. Amazing how quickly that Ford would pull that big, heavy Caddy.

 

Early '70's put a 292 in a '46 Studebaker PU for a driver, then built a 289 w/4-spd, sold the 292 & drove it for another 4 yrs until my neighbor talked me out of it. Wish I still had it; i'd probably have a big flattie in it by now...(they sound so nice w/a set if "smitty's" or "hush-thrush" behind them!)

 

Still in the works but I'm putting a 429/c6 in a 57 Nomad just because I can!!

I had 289 Ford in a 55 Austin Healey 100-4 at the beginning of the muscle car era.
