Dropped front axle mockup.

Edit: dropped 36 front axle by 296V8. Reverse eye front spring, three of the leaves removed and cut,then moved to the bottom. Round back spindles. 40 juice brakes.

Matt, that looks really good. Looks like a plan.

 

So bitchin! Here's my advise from experience: drop the steering hoop and shorten the pitman arm...it'll bump steer and death wobble like crazy if you don't

Thanks. You know I was looking at it and I don't think it will be that hard to make the mechanicals work. But I also am pretty sure I figured out how to bolt a master in without cutting. which would make the juice brakes a bolt in. With the amount of miles I put on it already, I would prefer to go with the less maintenance afforded by the juice brakes.

Now that I have the axle in I am fairly excited because I am pretty sure I can fit a 5.50x17 in there. Which will help fill out the wheel well a little more and would raise the front up just a little. I have a pair of 17's for the front, but no tires yet. I'll probably make that change in a little while as what I have works fine for now.

fyi...5.50x17 BFG's are a tad shorter than 5.50x17 Firestones and both have pie crust sidewalls...$$$ is about the same too.

 

Actually, the first dimension is the cross-sectional width (not height) in inches, through the sidewalls, at their widest point, mounted on a spec width rim..but we're Colonials, LOL.

 

I want vintage hose clamps. Anyone reproduce them? Thoughts?

What style are you looking for and what size? I just went through this with my T. I used some NOS EELCO thumb drive clamps for my fuel lines and I have some left over that would be right for like a heater hose diameter. For radiator/water pump clamps, I found some NOS wire clamps similar to the link below:

I found those at Old Car Parts in Portland. I was just there last week and I'm sure they still have some. I don't know if this helps or not, but that's what I was able to come up with. Love the truck btw.

All the antique Ford stores sell authentic looking clamps. Most of them are cheaply made of thin material. The Model A guys in my club are having a lot of trouble with them. They bend up before getting tight enough. I don't know about the other places listed above. I would shop around before buying a quantity.

 

For the clamps check out Old Car Parts NW, they are located in Renton. I walked through their shop and stock when they moved to their current location and they literally had shelves of clamps and other small bits n' pieces.
