The purpose of this thread is to gather information and pictures of Sun Tune Up Centers, Testers, Scopes, Analyzers, Distributors Systems.

To share information about how we use them, problems we encounter and the solutions we come up with. Restoration projects as well as Tips and Tricks.

I have found there is a HUGE lack of information on SUN. I have done hours upon hours of searching on Jalopy Journal, Garage Journal, Google and other sites and have come up with very little information.

I hope this thread becomes a repository of SUN information and does not shortly fade way like other SUN postings.

To kick things off here are some helpful sites.

I have an allen distributer machine, the newest tuneup sheet in it is a 1961. It worked like a champ when I got it 2 years ago but now it's stopped lighting up. Anyone know a good place to read up on the trouble shooting?

Great idea. I have a lot of Sun equipment from a home shop that operated from the early sixties. Some of the equipment goes back in the early 1950s.

  11. Yes! I've seen that page. Good stuff! I have been looking for something in a quart to roll on because it seems to have a better effect. I can only seem to find the rust oleum in spray however.
I did find some Rust Cap ( I think?) on amazon for $80 a gallon!

I picked this up a year or so ago. The coil tester, vacuum gauge, ohm meter and leakdown tester work. The rest are DOA. The main transformer in the scope is melted down and I have had no luck finding a replacement.
I also have a BST-10 that I use at work now and then when I don't trust the shops midtronics battery tester, nothing beats a real carbon pile to check a battery.
Found a repop manual on Fbay.

Subscribed. I have an early 50's Distributor Tester model MD-1. Have updated the electronics and added a power source instead of using a battery. Just finished curving a Mallory dual point for my flathead. Worked like a champ.

I was checking out the second link I included in the first posting. I just saw it has a paint section

    "Paint

I've been looking for a source for the blue hammer-tone paint. According to Roger Kunz, folks have been pleased with Sherwin-Williams Dimenso Dark Blue Enamel. The product code is 522-2302 and the Dimenso paint is described in product info sheet CC-B5. The paint seems to be available in only the gallon size and has a shelf life (unopened) of two years. So be sure to have the the sales person check the date code on the lid before you buy it.

I've bought a gallon, but haven't tried it yet."

I called Snap On today for the off chance they would have some SUN manuals. No luck, I was told that all the SUN information prior to them acquiring SUN in 1995 was purged.
