ACME is in! We are going up Thursday and hitting the junk stores (they call them antique malls now) before setting up the booth. Stop in and say HI Hambers.

The doors will get to ride on the trailer with the bar and bbq. Plenty of room there.

If you haven't been you should hit the Woolworths. You can wander the place for treasures while they make your burger at the original grill / soda fountain

2.5 hours is possible IF you're averaging at least 75 MPH the whole way (which is what most people around here drive) and take the 5 from the 605. Taking the 210 would take you out of your way,and from someone who regularly drives the 210 through the foothills of the San Gabriel and San Fernando Valley I would avoid it just because the slow lanes and overpasses are really rough even in a car with stock suspension.

Surprised there's any Woolworth's left. I used to go to the one in Glendale as a kid.

This Monday and Tuesday are probably going to drag ass, for as of 6:00 p.m. this Wednesday I'll be back in O.C.! It probably sounds nuts but the first place my wife and I always go is Jack in the Crack for a couple of our favorite cheap but awesome tacos!!I'll drive our rental up to Bako Saturday morning very early to miss traffic, and then lay my eyes on some righteous rods!

Its not really still a Woolworths. But it used to be. The grill soda fountain still intact. The rest of the store is consignment antiques all over both floors of the building. The original Woolworths sign is still up also. So from outside and the counter it has the same feel.

And the last time I was in there they had a Model T on display.

Be on the road Thursday. Meeting a buddy that moved to LA and bringing a CHRR virgin along. He's never heard a vintage fueler fire! Can't wait.

Okay after discussion with the gang and keeping in tradition. The Roughneck Bar is going to have the Pig Roast again at Famoso. All HAMBers invited. Just come get in line for a slab of roasted pig. Its kind of a man party with not many side dishes we have Pig,Pork,Ham & Bacon. With delivery problems we wont do it until Saturday night. So right after the Cacklefest anyone with a 3 day pass. ( what it takes to get in campground side) come on over.

So here is a different question.
How kid friendly is it? I know its going to be loud and crowded and all that. Basically all I need is changing tables in the restrooms. Or do I have to walk back out to my vehicle?

    Anyone else taking little ones?

Can't help much with that question... I have not really paid attention on that issue. It is loud for sure, just about anywhere you go.Close to track or thru the pits. I don't remember if the bathrooms which are located behind westside bleachers about half track have changing stations or not?

I'd say the place is not very kid friendly, especially for the really young kids.

The restrooms are porta-potties. I've never noticed if any larger ones with changing tables are available.

Not to be preachy, but I actually get a little upset when I see people bring their very young children out there. As you noted it's really, really loud, there are lung burning nitro fumes in the air, dust, blazing sun, etc. Not a real baby friendly place. IF you do take your kid, please think about their well being, and bring stout earmuffs and be aware of wind direction. Also, be real careful cruising the pits when the nitro cars light off. The fumes can be suffocating.

A few years back I saw a young girl with a baby in her arms hanging with the fence crew near the starting line during the top fuel eliminations; kid had no ear protection and the chick seemed totally oblivious to the fact that she was probably subjecting the kids still developing ears to possible permanent damage. Not to mention the nitro haze drifting right into the crowd. I'm still pissed I didn't say anything to her.

And for the record, the first time I went to the drags (OCIR) with my pop I was about 8 years old, and I'll never forget it. So I'm not saying is never take a kid, just think long and hard about taking an infant or toddler.

    There. Done preaching.
