Features Studebaker M5

Just took one of the first real rides in my Studebaker truck. I have been hard at it trying to get it on the road for spring. My goal is to take it to the Jalopy showdown in Latimore valley in May of this year. It has a 283 sbc and a 5 speed backing it up. It works exactly how I had hoped. I plan to log some serious miles on the truck this summer. Nothing better than the first ride! Check out my album on this truck for more pics.

Glad to hear you got a ride from it and hope you make the showdown. I can relate a lot to your truck. Back in '76 I was boppin' around in a '47 with a hot li'l 283/M20. Nothing special,just fun to drive.

i think the coolest thing about those late 40s studes is right front fender will fit left rear...and same other side...stude only stamped two fenders to save costs...just random trivia...lol..

 

fenders being the same front to back would make you believe that someone would make repair panels...........not so!

Nice! Did you make any suspension changes? I put conventional shocks on mine but kept the straight axle and it handles just great on the highway.

What I particularly like about the M's is that they already look chopped when you compare them to the Fords and Chevys of the same era.

 

I put a IFS in mine and a chevy s-10 rearend. I love how it drives.

Don't know about any suspension/axle changes you've made, so, at the risk of being redundant, will mention that in the early '70's used a late '50's Merc 9''rear(same as Ford, but bigger bolt pattern: same BP as Studebaker: was able to keep Studebaker 16" wheels: kept Stude front axle/brakes: brake ballance was close enough to not be noticed) Wish I'd never let that one get away!!! Iwas using a 3.89 gear w/4spd & a stock small valve 289 Ford w/2bbl holly & stock cast exhaust manifolds: worked great!!

Nice truck. Always wanted to get my hands on a stude truck, but not to many of em down my end.

 

These trucks are so rare. Just sold my 46 m5. I just bought a 47 m5.
And I just found a guy that has FIVE m5 trucks for sale!!!

 

Never saw one til the other day. my friend has one, a little rusty.

He's got a pile of Studebakers.

Class Glass and Performance have nice fiber fenders...
Studebaker made a left and right fender and the full length running boards will flip side to side.
The larger trucks had fender extensions and larger cutouts for the bigger wheels/tires.

Those M5 trucks are goofy-looking? Wonder why someone would want one....

The M-5's are few and far between but when worked over they are a real eye catcher.

Here's one I did about 20 years ago, 460 C6 and a Versailles 9" Home fabbed frame Granada rear suspension Volare front suspension. Sold it to a friend and he flipped it on Ebay.
Has anyone seen one that fits this description, last I saw it, it was painted flat black. I know it was sold on Ebay about 8 years ago, but have no idea where it went

 

It's about the last truck I would have imagined as a custom, but I'm glad I decided to go this direction.

That is a great looking truck HRP! I am building one for my father inlaw, way different in the fact of little support from the aftermarket. But good times, sbc/700 in his build. Check out vintage46.

We had to rebuild the entire floor pan due to corrosion, but we are done with that, final welding, seam sealer and on to paint and body for the cab. We did a Camaro subframe and late S10 with disc rear axle 3.73 posi.
