    HEY PHOENIX!

YUP, ANOTHER MINI BIKE EVENT!!! :D

Just got a call from cool buddy Ronnie Olmstead, The New Wild Horse Pass Dragway has scheduled a "get to know us" type event on October 5 and 6. Of course, we've know this place as Firebird international for 30 years now. We have been invited to the run what you brung, and they will have a class for mini bikes on Saturday the 5th. I don't have flyers yet, so details are a bit sketchy, but Nancy Perry will run a car show down there too, and the drags will be flag type as there will not be timing equipment installed quite yet. Ronnie and I will be out with a pop up and a cooler, so bring your mini even if you don't intend to race. Let's show the "normals" out there how many of us are having fun with these little things!!! I'll post a flyer as soon as I have one...

Damn Hellfish, that looked like fun! maybe next year now that I'm kinda forced to get my Ranchero up and rolling I can justify loading the Kart and Mini in the back and heading that way... It's a stretch, but I can hope!

Actually, if you look closely, I think it may be a 300X with separate bars/forks where the 250 has a one piece fork assy.

The tires are awesome and could have been ordered on a Taco. Nowadays they are very hard to find. I have several sets and need more for all my Tacos. I get more comments on those tires on my red Frijole than anything else it seems.

They were also sold under the ARCO name

Cat Minibike. Are the handlebars separate from the forks? If so, do they tilt forward?

NO! They are one piece down to the wheel.

Okay...so the upper frame piece pivots on a mount attached to the top of the engine's head?

The interesting part is that I don't recall there being any Cats built with rear shocks and handlebars that didn't tilt forward. Definitely some kind of Cat frame and forks, just not sure if they came together originally. Can you get better pics?

Yep. The frames were modular and the top loop could build either one of these, a Burrito, or the original Taco and later Taco 55, 99 that had a swingarm that pivoted on the same mounting point as the engine mount and swept back into the rear wheel and had shocks

I picked up this home built last weekend. It looks like European scooter meets minibike frame. Was tol it was built in the late 50s in NY.

Pretty wild, just make sure your laces stay away from all the moving parts on both sides.

400X has a 2 piece fork/handlebar assy and the bars tilt forward. Sometimes it's hard to tell that it's 2 pieces, but that's what they had. A 300X uses the same fork lower, but the upper bars are straight up with no tilt. 250X has a complete one piece bar/fork assy and has no plate up there like the 300/400 bikes.

Just like cars though, there were plenty of strange ones to make it out of the factory and not necessarily match the brochure. See it a lot with Taco

Like this bike posted before - you can see that the bars separate from the fork lowers, and there's a plate on the front where a decal would go:

I've owned a few of these and still have a parts bike. Two piece but no tilt.
