A '42 I'm helping a friend do, 350/700, IFS, 9". Using the trailing arm suspension and centre X-member from a '46 Oldsmobile. I stepped up the rear chassis to allow for suspension travel. As you can see a long way to go from here.

I have a 46 that just came into the shop with a 327 in it. I'm looking for some radiator recommendations. Any ideas?

  5. on my '39 and on a '38 i used a '70 dodge dart radiator and cut down the side brackets. it fits like it belongs. later i will post the part number.

  8. I'm still alive and kicking, my business has kept me real busy this year. Now that things are slowing down, I'll have time to concentrate on my trucks. Just went thru all 31 pages of this 41-46 Chevy Truck Thread. How's everybody doing?
Novadude55 what's happening down in Chowchilla? How about you guys downunder? Over in England, Little Terry how you doing?
This summer, got out to a bunch of shows with my Army Truck. Had a whole lot of fun. Met some wonderful people. Got to take some pictures of pretty girls.
By the end of summer, picked up 2 more 41-46 Pickups. Makes a total of 5 that I own. I've already started in on the 42 by putting the cab over onto a 97 Honda Passport Chassis. Right now the plan is to put a TBI Chevy 350 with an L4-80E transmission in it. -one crusty one

Hey Gary, thanks for asking, I have been crazy busy, got three projects I am juggling, a 41-46 chevy truck build on a more modern frame, a 41-46 firetruck restomod and a model A, I have had several small repair jobs over the summer, plus I took on a stalled restoration on a 60 Impala. If that wasnt enough I also have a part time job learning auto A/C repairs at the shop that the owner of the Impala owns.

Still workin on the '46 Chevy 1.5 ton Skoolie. The Cummins 4BTAA is now mated to a brand new Allison 2200MH, double OD 6-speed auto and we are fitting the package as I speak. All the great looking Art Decos here are an inspiration for me to speed things up. Hey, I'd like to drive this thing a bit before I'm too damned old!

And...if anyone knows the whereabouts of a 5.43 ring & pinion or complete rear end with that (optional) ratio...I will be happy to pay top dollar for a usable set of gears.

Here is a pic of the engine & tranny...

And here is where the "House A/C goes...

Still a long way to go so please...keep the inspiration coming!

here's mine. The paints stripped off now. The 235 runs - new brake cylinders - still need a to rebuild master cylinder

  19. Update Dec 2 2013, found out recently just how popular these old 41-46 Chevy trucks are. I bought a 42 during the summer and have had time to put it over on one of my Isuzu Rodeo/Honda Passport chassis. I was going to build it for me but a friend of mine has decided he liked it and has offer to give me a bunch of money to finish it to his liking.
I also was commissioned to build a 37 Chevy Pickup on an Isuzu chassis. I'm right in the middle of the build of this truck. The engine transmission arrived over the Thanksgiving weekend, so I will put it in the frame rails today. I have found out the 37 body is 3 1/2" shorter than 41-46, but use 4 out of the 8 body mounting holes like the 41-46. I prefer the 41-46, they fit over the Isuzu frame better. I had to be creative with mounting the body, for one thing, this truck is a rust bucket. I will give it back to the fellow that owns it and let him do the patch panels.
My buddy Mel liked the Isuzu chassis so much, (he's a Dodge truck guy)so I found him a 95 Honda Passport with a blown motor. $400 bucks and the the auto wreckers delivered to my place and retrieved the dismantle hulk the next day after I pulled the frame. We set it up for a small block Chevy, put the Dodge cab over on the chassis. Found that Dodge uses 4 large 1/2" bolts to mount the cabs down, and would you believe two out of the 4 holes match perfect with the Isuzu mounts. Real simple! we had the cab mounted in one day.
Keep up the great works guys, and have a great Christmas Season.

For some odd reason I'm unable to download pictures.

I plan on using the power steering gearbox as well as the wheel & column from a '93 Isuzu NPR on my bus. Have to move the gearbox to the outside of the frame rail to make room for the Cummins & Allison. Appears to be a well made unit and should pair well with the PS pump on my motor. Will need to fab new mounts & linkage but that shouldn't be too tough...I hope.

That's far from a heap! I love the look!

Looks a lot like mine! I had found photos of yours after I bought mine and planned what to do. Much along the same lines, just different personal preferences! Mine was a long box that I shortened, as yours appeared to be from the Rod Authority article I saw. Nice truck!

I can't believe I just found this thread. I've had my '46 GMC since 2009, and started on it April 2012 and finished it in August 2013 (with the very long winter off). It's on an S-10 frame. Not traditional but VERY fun to drive. Running a 455 Buick and TH400.

Thanks! It's a very fun truck, and makes our long winters seem even longer having it waiting in the garage for spring!
