Thank you blokes for all of your support and for spreading the word about the new Yblock 4-71 Blower Intake Manifold

I have received some technical questions from prospective customers and interested parties regarding the Ybloke 4-71 Blower Intake

    1) Does the manifold fit all Y-blocks?
The manifold will fit all y-block 272, 292,and 312 engines, the intake ports have been made to fit the larger 1957 ports but I believe it will work on the smaller 1955 -1956 size intake ports.

    2) Is a special valley cover required for the Blower Intake?
The Ybloke manifod has sufficient clearance to work with all Ford Factory valley covers.

    3) Does the Factory distributir fit and clear the Ybloke Blower Intake?
Yes the Blower Intake can be fitted to any Yblock with the larger diameter 1957 up mechanical advance distributir with ample clearance for setting advance without interferance with the manifold or 4-71 Blower

Do you have any pics with on installed on a motor, with the pulleys, etc?

  3. Calling Lindsay, as above, have you a photo of a motor with the blower on it? We all wanna see one! Good to catch up with you again at Bendigo swap last Saturday -H.R.D-

  4. Would love to see a complete set up.

    Hot Rod Dude and others
At present I have only made the 4-71 blower intake
To ensure compatability between the CRAGAR and the YBLOKE intake the blower was set on the YBLOKE intake in the same forward/aft position.

After many inquiries and questions I am looking at the possibility of making a crank hub and/or alternative arrangement that will be compatible with readily available pulleys to satisfy most needs as well as to keep costs down... this thread is to gather information...

First...The need for a harmonic balancer on a blown engine? From what I can gather the balancer is not required on "neutral balanced" blown engine as the harmonics generated from the power pulses of the engine are absorbed by the combination of the blower drive belts and the compression of air within the blower... That's why a crank hub and belt pulley combinations work...

    What do you say?

With all the discussion on seeing a complete setup, the question that comes into my mind is this:

At this time is there anyone out there who actually has this blower manifold installed in a complete running and driving vehicle ?

Or is this manifold only a really nice piece of workbench porn so far ?

    I hear your comment
In reply the manifold a fair bit more than workshop porn...

To prove manifold proper fit and seal I have run the manifold on a stock yblock with the 4BBL carb adapter plate fitted directly to the manifold, but without the 4-71 in place, as I do not have a drive, yet... The engine ran smoothly with no water loss and the manifold seals were confirmed by spraying aerostart (eather) around gasket seals to test for any seal problems. THE MANIFOLD FITS!

The manifold has been sent directly to several professional engine reconditioning businesses in the USA and unsolicited feed-back included "killer fit".

In time I will be in a position to confirm the manifold has been run on a blown GM4-71 Y-block, I have acquired a reconditioned GM4-71 from Deans Blowers USA for this purpose, but there are a bunch of YBLOKE blower manifold owners who are already ahead of me....

Why should we all have to re-invent the wheel as far as a drive is concerned?

Sweet We have a number of extra 471 671 goodies laying around to piece something up So any idea what length the snout will be on a finished setup? I think drive and pullies can be made pretty easily.

Thank you for your offer and encouragement

The snout length is looking like approx 7 inches
This first consideration is how many accessory vbelts do you intend to run?
(a single accessory or double accessory vbelt)

Harmonic balancers then come into play, no balancer or factory, or aftermarket

I have one of the YBloke blower intakes here and currently trying to hunt down a 471 blower to mount on it. I may end up using a smaller blower with an adapter just to get it going in the mean time. I'll post pictures of the completed setup when it comes together. Ted Eaton.

    YBLOKE blower intake developments
When fitting the Yboke blower intake to a Yblock engine I have found the pop-off plate position in either side of the plenum could be improved in relation to better clearance to the factory manifold hold down washers by raising the pop-off plate 12mm higher. Setting the pop-off plate 12mm higher has necessitated relief's being cast into the plenum to accommodate the new pop-off plate height. The change in height also improves access to the pop-off plate when the blower is in place. Just a small improvement to enhance the manifold's flexibility and user satisfaction.

If your going blower on a Y block, Cometic Gasket is just releasing a head gasket that will hold the cylinder pressures instead of the standard composite gaskets that have been out and have multiple thickness available also.

    Hey everybody
Last weekend, after months of setting specifications and finding supplliers.... and waiting for shipments to arrive in Australia.... I was in a position to pull the drive components together to confirm the drive layout and clearances. I have accumlated lots of useful information and specifications in the process. This time I have started with an 8 inch snout, single vbelt harmonic balancer set-up (with adapter), 1360mm x 75mm ( 8mm pitch) Gilmer belt. Full drive specs and information is to be shared in this and other forums over time..
NEXT STEP is to transfer all these goodies to the engine on the test stand, add a pt of oil to the snout, attend to all the other connection and run pieces of the puzzle... check everything twice then create some magic...

Announcing the safe arrival of the Ybloke 4-71 Supercharged 292 Ford Yblock, it LIVES….

The blown Yblock engine project has brought together a Ford 292 engine, a Ybloke 4-71 Supercharger Intake Manifold, a reconditioned GM4-71 Supercharger, a custom 8” snout and drive coupler, a ‘The Blower Shop’ swing tensioner, overdriven 50:46 tooth Gilmer pulleys (8mm pitch) a 170 tooth Gilmer belt (1360mm), a custom harmonic balancer adapter coupling and a 4-71 to 4BBL adapter plate. This combination together with a 750cfm Edelbrock 4BBL carby, home made zoomies, re-curved truck distributor and a vintage JAP (gravity feed) fuel tank completes the package.

    Thank you for the comment.
Trail blazing takes time, and Australia is sometimes a log way..and of course there are always competing priorities...
The final conversion of the 292 y-block from naturally aspirated to a GM4-71 blown engine only took about 1 1/2 hours... The blown y-block started right up and idled steadily without complaint...
Those zoomies do a good job of parting what remains of my hair...
    Keep on yblocking
    Regards
    Lindsay

Awesome, I'd love to run one in my 59 f100. I know it took a lot to get this far but do you think you could run it with 2 v belts instead of one large belt?

I have catered for this possibility in the design of the harmonic balancer adapter coupling..
The adapter is designed to allow interchangeably between Gilmer pulleys or a vbelt or even a twin vbelt pulleys, the adapter has been made to fit BBC pulleys with a 2" reference..
More on this in the next few weeks...
