  6. I had a SU-1R in my B engine in my coupe- ran great!

  7. I'm going with a 1-R as well...the 1-A is slightly more aggressive; with a single SR-B carb, I just don't have enough to feed a 1-A.

  8. Thanks guys, I probably start with the r-1 and bb carb and step up to the a-1 and c carb if its not enough for me. What do I need to do as far as valve spring pressures?

  9. I ran stock valve train in mine. I had a 6.4:1 Winfield head, SU-1R cam, counterbalanced crank, lightened flywheel, dual 81's, mallory ignition and a header. That, combines with the V8 trans, made that car very fun to drive!

Stick with the 1 r cam unless it a race engine
you will need better valve springs with that cam to get the best from it especially if your using bigger valves and bigger lifters
I use the flathead V8 springs with a spacer
I can find the spec if you need them
    Colin

  11. Actually, I'm against. I like the underplayed look of an "almost" stock machine.
That's who I intend to go with my next one - old looking, close to giving up, but supprisingly it keeps on going!

    Colin, if Hitch doesn't, I could! :)

Hi guys here is what I use
mopar lifters which are heavier and cut down chevy valves different size for A or B also heavier and fast action cam
I need 90 psi at installed height I try to keep full open pressure to less than 140 psi or the cam walks too much and std timing gears can fail
Springs for mild cam are stock ford flat head V8 with modern retainers and collets
For more cam I like Schneider Cams Spring 68046
The Spacer is 1.125 OD 0.625 ID 0.625 Total Length and 0.500 outer Length adjust to measured spring length at 90 psi (where the spring sits) spring to in lip clearance 0.100 this lip in side the spring
My last Engine I made 1 Piece guides with 0.500 thicker base this worked best so far

  13. I think it's pretty understated compared to a polished and finned aluminum piece, But still says I got something HOT going on here.

    Thanks!

  14. I need a fire lit under my ass...lost all steam after missing the flathead run.

Matt, Sorry you missed that run. You just got to get your wheels back under you and get back to your pickup.

Wish you the best as you work on your "A".

When I did my coupe, I put the part touching your thumb towards the car and the part touching your index finger towards the frame. I do not know if it is right, but it seals up nice and tight.

  23. Thanks for the encouragement! I spent 3 hours yesterday digging the old windshield gasket out. That SOB was hard as a rock...I also chased all the holes in the filler strip and welded a couple nuts to the inside where the cage nuts had broken.

  27. Exactly. I like, that it's down the line, people discovers, it's hot - not when lurking under the hood. Has given a few street rodders at the ESRA meet a new found respect for a "original, almost stock" car. :D

Before and after - I have a couple of those shots as well. ;)

Keep up the good work, friends can help a lot with the motivation. :)

  28. Nothing fun to show. Cab is all back together. Engine pretty much ready. Transmission is on the bench for rebuild. Just need to do that and reinstall the rear spring on to the rearend and put those in.

Matt, There ys go ! Knew that you would be back on working on your truck.

My friend who built the Track Roadster I documented make those. They are hand made and I believe around $140 . . . . . Let me know and I will get you his phone number. He lives in Burbank Ca.

Best of luck on your truck build.
