Yep. I haven't been in a couple years and I'm looking forward to it. Always a killer swap meet at that show.

and to think, I had to talk Kirk and Dave into taking the tour...
I had a blast in the years I went on it, so I knew they'd have fun too.

    Nice shots

Regretted not going this year, but decided to hang back this year. Always a good day!!! It was cool seeing the cars leave the track, the turnout was great and awesome quality.

  4. .

I had a blast on the tour. It was just not my day though.

First our group got a little lost going to the lunch stop. Apparently we picked the wrong guy to follow.

Then the rains came just as I was getting ready to roll into the water for my burnout at Muncie. I didn't get to make my pass under power due to the wet track. Bummer for sure...

Then the final bit of bad luck came when I was late to the the final checkpoint.

I still had a great day and was stoked for my buddy Crafty B and his Top 5 Pick.

Good times for sure. Lots of cool cars and cool people.

  5. lets see some of those cars entered into hot rod mag drag week next year. five tracks over five days covering 1500 miles and no trailers. its a great time.

THAT is one cool hot rod and HOT RODDER!!!!!!

  8. Thanks for the real story and great pictures!
So hard to make that one pick out of that group.

First time I saw pics of the Plymouth coupe, I knew
that car was a top level build. Being in the final 5 confirms it.

  11. This one really does it for me too! Too bad about the coil. True Hotrodder, helping out a buddy. Big respect!

Not a pig in the bunch! Hard to choose just one,for sure.

Kirk: Thanks for posting these up. I don't envy your position having to decide... all over the top excellent rides. I'd lean toward Crafty's inspiring work of art ; but you just can't stop looking at any Poteet car... with a "real" Covico to boot!

Seen Poteets car at Pleasanton. did not know it was his car, talked to the guy who brought it for about 30 minutes. Really a cool hotrod.. Looks like a Hotrod should. I have to wonder thou, has it gotten to the point where you have to have a "name" to be considered for the big awards.

I dug this car more with the satin finish on the wheels. not a fan if its new maroon color..

I'd say no since 3 of the 5 finalists weren't big shops.

  16. Great coverage Kirk. Once again, the best day of the year to drive a hot rod. If you guys issued tickets for having too much fun, I'm sure I would've gotten a few. And Dave Gray won (earned) a bunch of something they don't give awards for. Thanks to Tanks and Goodguys and all that had a hand in putting the HROTY program together.

  17. Great pictures & coverage as always. Hot Rod of The Year has gotta be my favorite of the GG awards. Thanks for posting.

I'd like to say it was good seeing a badass fendered car finally win the title, first one that I know of. Also wondering if HROTY will stay at the Indy event??

Mark me as another one who is glad he didn't have to pick one winner out of that batch of cars. Not a looser in the photos you showed of individual cars in the event. And the fact that several Hambers were in it makes it even better.

Sitting here at 8 in the morning, grinning like a fool, inspired to scrap all current plans and go back to my original desire for Ford Truck Maroon for my 52, polished within an inch of its life......and then, those wheels on that otherone,....and....the way that tail light looks near that subtle cream pinstriping, and....

.....haven't felt that 'inspired to go out to the garage and do it NOW' from much on the HAMB in ages!

and I'm sure the quality of photography doesn't hurt it either:D

    thanks Kirk!
