Thanks, work has been keeping me away from getting more done in he garage. On the other hand without money it's pretty tough to afford the project, kind of a catch 22 I guess!

Its actually the inside skin from the original trunk. I think it looks pretty cool just need to repail the bottom 4". No it will not be a functinal trunk but I had no delusions of that anyways. Tank, battery and rear suspension ate up all the available room!

Yes, the inner panels look neat. Hopefully you will make the lid functional. Much easier to check suspension, etc. You still might have room for a small storage area to hold a few tools, rags, etc. nothing big I know.

I don't know how I ever missed this build before, but I am subscribed now... I always enjoy seeing late 20's and early 30's builds using something other than a Ford.

I was hoping to put some cool leather suitcase or bag back for just that reason tools etc. Somehow I fear breakdowns are imminent! As for operable lid it'll probably be just a removable panel in the end. I got the 2 main hinges working, I'm good with that.

  9. I wish I got as lucky as you did with that inner panel. The previous owner of my '32 Olds, had the body on a VW beetle chassis and cut the original trunk lid for the engine. I bought a repro 32 Chevy trunk lid outer skin, but the inner panel still needs alot of work. I haven't figured out exactly what I'll do-

Here is the front seat of a '32 Olds restoration. It still has the original six and all the goodies with it. It sold at Auction for over $50,000.

$50k not bad, I could probably part with her for that.
Yah I definitely got lucky with a lot of the parts on this one.

With the length of the the Olds engine you have a blank page, maybe a Buick overhed inline 8 with open pipes and 4 DCOE sidedraft Webers. tons of old GM transmissions around, I've stumble over 2 all the time so many got rodded. Dump the torque tube and get an open driveline to make things simple.
KEEP THE FENDERS...paint it (even with a brush) wet sand & buff it as best you can then go drive it this summer.......... way cool car!

So I have actually accomplished a few things recently but they aren't overly noticable. Got the steel for the top in place and started working on reinforcing/ manufacturing grill mounts so it can withstand 100 mph winds!...Just in case. :)

Got more interior work done, mostly to see if I would fit....and no...I don't. Not with the steering wheel in, so...I have to get a removable steering wheel hub and McGyver it to the old school wheel I have! There just doesnt seem to be a simple path here....perfect! :)

Also anybody have suggestions my door handle now seems to slip on the steel shaft, its original 1931 hardware so its all brass, thinking of brazing it? I'll post a pic if I can find one, its actually the video I posted when it was working a page back.

I do like the way a rod looks in white walls!
Not sure if its noticeable but using 3/4" treated plywood for flooring, have read that it provides both a good thermal and noise barrier? Sounded logical? Guess we will see.

Next up the dash, really needed to get the steering column located but figured gauges would be nice too.

    Thanks, slow steady pace!

I am hoping the seats using conventional springs will help to offer some support 'cause I'm pretty sure its going to be a fairly rough ride!
Not a whole lot of allowable suspension travel.

Took a few attempts to get everything to fit, all 3 pedals and linkage etc, better planning on my part probably would have made it easier. Fabbed up a nice cover plate for brake reservoir as well.

Looks like I have to clean up my new sheetmetal, I think it got a bit wet somewhere along the lines.

  27. It makes an excellent thermal and noise barrier. Some of the heavy truck companies continued to use it for floors for many years, for that very reason. I also just wanted to say, I've really been enjoying this build thread,

Thanks Guys, I am sure driving it is going to be fun, but sorting out all the issues with the build so far has been a blast! Plus there's a little pride in the fact that it is something just a little different, but then again every build is a little different.
