When having multiples of the same car you do not need to keep a bunch of parts in stock for repairs, you can even rob a part off another in a emergency.

  4. I used to. Had bunch of falcons. Not sure why but, it changed. Kinda suddenly. Sold them off and moved on. The cars I have now are all very different. But I have and want more cars than "regular" people.

Many times it is because of your like of the car itself, and the price of ones you come across. If you like say '54 Chevies and you find 3 or 4 cheap, you will own 3 or 4 of them.
Back in the 80's I had 2 identical looking OT Torino Elites. One was driven weekdays, the other weekends. The weekend car had a strong 460 while the car most people saw was a small block with a 2 barrel. Dusted many with the big block car only to see them later while driving the other.

The first one was hard to come by and took a long time to find the right one. These old cars are rare don't you know.. The next came when you weren't looking. The third was too cheap to pass up. the fourth was a parts car for free, you just had to haul off 5 cars and perform 3 thousand dollars worth of labor, and give the guy that 4 speed in the shed. Its called ADDICTION. There is no cure. Marriage may tame it, but---- there is one down the street in a backyard, all you have to do is fix the fence, and ----------------Thats my story and I'm sticking to it.

The guy who helped me keep my first car (57 Chevy ragtop) running 'most' of the time, Jimmy Catrone, used to have 2 57 Chevies, hardtops, both painted 69 Camaro blue, both with 4 speeds, stock SBC, and black R&P bench seat interiors.
I used to tell him all the time that he had NO imagination!
Later on, he DID build a 56 Belair, Plum Crazy purple, and white...I guess he showed me!
He moved to Florida about 20 years ago...I really miss him.

  13. I have a buddy with two 58 Chevy sedan deliverys-if all the rust fell off them there would only be one left. And it wouldn't run either.
I keep telling him to get a Ford but he won't listen.

I have multiples because if at least 1 was male and at least 1 was female maybe they would breed and have some offsprings !

  20. It is a symptom of the "Collector Syndrome"........no matter what people collect they are compelled to seek out the next one......some go for stamps, guns, crystal, vintage war relics........a friend at work collects Pink Panther relics? Whatever turns one on ......but for us it is cars, and sometimes multiples of the same. It satisfies our hobby.......it gives us a comfort zone of identity........it builds friendships and causes divorce too:eek:. It will make ya or break ya if one lets it. As long as one owns the cars and the cars do not own you it is a safe hobby. I have seen the hobby get ugly too:mad:.....and of course it usually is over money..........I have pondered the thought of only having one of the same model........but the thought fades as I grow attached to these pawns of addiction:D:eek:. Now.......a big thanks to all involved in our passion for this hobby for without a car community it would not be much fun now would it . Enough said.........now let me go check this 55 Convert out:eek:;).

Interesting responses here. I can sure see owning several body styles of a given model, like one sedan, one convertible, one wagon, but what I'm not getting is the desire to have many of the same car; Chevelle guy only bought 2 door hardtops, and was only interested in big blocks. A fleet of them. I get more kicks from variety, I guess. Never the less, I'm glad everyone's not just like me!

When I was a kid there was a guy a couple streets over that had two 55 Chevies. One was his DD. He street raced the other. No doubt his victims were used to seeing him his DD.

My brother has a friend that collects OT cars....same year, make, model, with consecutive VIN's. Last I heard he had three, and knew where one that was one number away was.

  23. So, you wouldn't want two or more of these with this body style?

I've got a 36 3W and Roadster.... couldn't live without either of them.

At one time I had a 63 Falcon convert, hardtop, 2 dr wagon, and ranchero...

I guess I have a problem with multiples.....

I met a guy in town with a Corvette obsession. In his heyday he owned 27...he's down to 6 now. His prize one is the 1955 he bought less than a year after it was made (not sure if he bought that one new). Mostly he has Stingray bodies, but he has a 59 and 64 as well. He told me he kept getting Corvettes because he didn't see any point in getting less than the best ;)

    Hmm.
Always wanted to convert one from auto to stick. Did that the year after I bought the second one.

One to "leave alone and drive" and one to modify a good bit was a train of thought I had years ago too.
