Event Coverage The 60th Anniversary Hot Rod Hill Climb

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Nicks Hot Rod Garage, Mar 14, 2013.

  1. Just got home and man what a blast it was!!! Hope this is is going to be an annual event. Mike I don't know what to say but you put together probably the most awesome hotrod event that I've ever attended. Was great to go and only see real hotrods and not billet clad, crybaby doll, california duster treated cars. Also enjoyed talking with your dad for a few minutes and watching his eyes light up when we talked about the '57.

The hillclimb coupe is awesome. I loved hearing it crackle coming back down the pass. I'll post some pics later and video will be on youtube.

Me and my wife went up and ran into some friends and met some new ones too. It was great talking with Tom Nelson who built all the dragmaster dragsters with his brother Jim. We were sitting on the first curve and got a good pic of Dave( orange peel) and I loved this 53 ford. Much kudos to u Mike!!!!!!!! This better be a annual event and the best event I have been to all year. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1379264341.709658.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1379264359.940544.jpg

The Hot Rod Hill Climb Story is documented by Thom Taylor in his article posted on line last night.
    http://blogs.hotrod.com/60th-annive...-georgetown-colorado-80631.html#axzz2eyfgOnjh

Thom gives a nice prospective and it will help you with what the event was about.

Shannon and I made the 70 mile drive up Friday afternoon and the I70 issues had us at a stand still. At one point , we had moved less than a mile in 17 min.
We rolled the windows down, turned the engine off and had a blast talking to people in the lanes right and left of us. Lot's of folks when a 3 lane interstate is parked!..then it goes down to 2 lanes! smile.
We arrived about 2:30 and got checked in at the Hot Rod Hill Climb tent. A quick tech inspection and added our car number with masking tape.

There was a drivers meeting and then a dry run up to the staging area. (picture attached)

We have driven by the Georgetown Exit many times over the past 6 years and never dropped into this beautiful town.

Shannon went for a morning run ( picture 2) and really enjoyed the views and especially the water.

It was a great time and we met a lot of nice people. The run up the hill was just awesome even though we took it pretty slow compared to most. I dropped it into 1st at each tight turn and got on it hard enough to burn a little rubber for the spectators that would applaud with their approval.

I stayed well under 30mph as it was a really fun event and the Mrs. would let me know fairly quickly ...." that's enough dear" each time we exited a curve.
    Vroom vroom!

    THANK YOU MIKE...a wonderful event.

    George

I had so much fun at the Hillclimb! What a blast! I think it'll HAVE to happen next year, and I'll have to bring my car! Everyone looked like they were having a great time, and it definitely brought out the best in traditional hotrods. Not to mention Mike has his heart in the right place; he spent the whole day thanking attendees. Everyone felt welcome and really had fun. Way to go, Mike!

Mike did an unbelievably fine job. He's such a cool guy putting on the funnest hot rod event.

Along with Mike - the cars, drivers, attendees and the town were all awesome.

My son took a bunch of pictures. As soon as he sends them to me I'll post them.

  26. My wife and I just arrived at home from our 1,120 mi. round trip journey to the event. The little Chevy even survived a few floggings up the hill!

    Too
    Much
    Fun!

Thanks Mike and everyone else who helped out and attended! Let's do it again next weekend, ha!
